Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Ahhh New Zealand represent (brags a resident kiwi)!

I presume that’s the Green Dragon Pub they are photographed at?

Edit: I should have actually clicked on the link before asking obvious question… ;)

They're probably doing preliminary schedules because yes while the strike has been called off, it isn't officially over until the entire membership votes on it; and that's not going to be completed until the first week in December from what I've read.

And while I'd say that yes most likely the membership will vote for it, until the vote is tallied, no one knows for certain.

Possibly. The article also mentioned Comcast’s NBCUniversal as a potential merger partner for WBD.

I’m wondering if Netflix taking on Prodigy is a sign of things to come, though. Netflix might not acquire Paramount. But Paramount might start being a content provider again selling their content to distributors.

I think Paramount+ is doing okay to the point that they won't be selling themselves to anyone. Paramount's also running a free streaming service Pluto TV that doesn't show any signs of going anywhere and is still expanding and adding channels.

Remember that Paramount and Netflix originally had a working relationship where Netflix was paying for the majority of the production of Star Trek discovery for the international rights as at that time, Paramount wasn't looking at expanding their streaming offering beyond the U.S. and Canada when they were CBS All Access. Paramount felt Star Trek was enough of a draw that they bought out the remainder of the Netflix deal when they decided to expand into disinternational distribution themselves, and rebranded themselves Paramount+.

I think it's pretty obvious that when Paramount Plus announced that they were going to finish production of Prodigy season 2; they probably already had a deal in place with Netflix for the other streamer to take the series.

This is intriguing.

Media outlets are suggesting by 2025, Warner Bros Discovery may attempt to acquire Paramount.

Paramount is currently 16 Billion in debt.

If Star Trek does return in 2025, it could potentially be on Max if this happens?
David Zaslav is shelving films and TV shows left, right, and center in order to fill the studio's (and his) pockets with tax breaks, essentially turning WB into a money laundering operation. Paramount getting bought out by WBD would kill the franchise because there'd be no certainty we'd ever see anything produced make the light of day.

TrekMovie: ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Team Gearing Up To Start Production On Season 3
https://trekmovie.com/2023/11/13/st...m-gearing-up-to-start-production-on-season-3/
As we reported last week, the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike (following the end of the WGA strike in September) means that all the various Star Trek projects can now move forward. The end of the actors’ strike now allows for casting, auditions, promotion, and (most importantly) actual production. And there are already indications that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is getting set to move forward on the third season of the series set on Captain Pike’s USS Enterprise.

Back to work on Strange New Worlds
According to executive producer Alex Kurtzman, production for the third season was “just about to start” before the WGA strike began in early May. Things were so close that they were just one day away from flying in the actors for the first episode according to producing director Chris Fisher in a TrekMovie interview. In that same interview over the summer when both strikes were still going on, Fisher told TrekMovie he and producers in Toronto kept a rotating production start plan going for whenever the strikes ended, saying “We’re not that many weeks away from being able to start.”

And true to his word, over the weekend Fisher announced on his Instagram that he is headed “back to Toronto for work” this week...

Season 1 filmed from February to July 2021, and started airing in May 2022
Season 2 filmed in the same time frame in 2022, and started airing in June this year.

So Season 3 will probably air mid 2025.

It's not filling anyone's pockets. It's just draining them less. Have they cancelled anything that would have made back its money?

I think there's a chance it's a little sooner. Without knowing for certain, I would hypothesize more was done during pre-production than is necessarily the norm prior to first filming.

The season is still going to finish filming around the same approximate time of year as the other two, so it stands to reason there will likely be a comparable gap between completion of filming and the airdate as there was with the other two.
