My thinking was they might have taped part 1 and 2 together, to avoid the actors looking different. Of course we wouldn't see part 2 until the actual start of S3 either way.

yeah, they MAYBE filmed the resolution to the scene. Whatever Pike’s orders were in that moment but that’s it.

At the time that episode aired (2005) It was. But its been 18 years since then. CGI has advanced so far.

Part 2 of a season ending cliffhanger is never filmed together with Part 1 for very practical reasons, most notably being the season's budget is often running out when the finale is filmed, while the premiere of a new season has a brand new budget. Often times, part 2 of a season ending cliffhanger isn't even written when part 1 is filmed, though there have been known to be exceptions.

I enjoyed it, I feel like it's more focused on character stories than last season, if that helps. My opinion is that the quality is very similar.

Pretty similar, although I would give the edge to season 2 for being a bit better and more memorable. I think season 2 had some episodes I thought were weaker than anything in season 1 but also had episodes I thought were stronger than anything in season 1.

IMO - Both seasons are very good. I love both. but I have to say overall I like season 2 a little more than season 1.
