Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I also wonder if they'll change up the bridge any
There is quite a bit of empty space (not that they seem to mind, Discovery's bridge is the same). The Kelvinverse Enterprise had extra stations to the sides of the helm and nav, and those podiums with the holographic glass behind. I'd be cool with any of those added to the SNW bridge.

But of course more stations means more extras to man them and more cost, and that's why the Enterprise-D only got those side stations in a few special episodes or when they switched to movies.

I know Ive been kind of down on New Star trek but I'm actually looking forward to strange New worlds. Maybe to get that closer to TOS feel that no Trek show has had before since TOS. Everything is either in the vein of TNG or JJ Trek. I look forward to maybe that old school feel

The last time Trek didn't feel like either TNG or JJ Trek was probably...Star Trek VI? That was in the Berman Era of television but still a transitional stage of the films where Bennett was no longer in charge but B&B had yet to take control of the movie franchise.

"Brother" (DSC 2.01)
"New Eden" (DSC 2.02)
"If Memory Serves" (DSC 2.08)
"Such Sweet Sorrow" Parts I and II (DSC 2.13 - 2.14)
"Q&A" (Short Treks 2.01)
"The Trouble With Edward" (Short Treks 2.02)
"Ask Not" (Short Treks 2.03)

These probably give the best idea about what Strange New Worlds could be like.

I was about to counter with "Calypso", but then I thought about it and realized it wouldn't feel tonally out of place as one of the better/quieter episodes of late-TNG. I can't imagine it being done as early or mid-TNG.

Show is still being made by Kurtzman but I was thinking about just how good the new Superman show is and is being made by people connected to the Arrowverse so their is hope. Jason

If memory serves, they moved the set components from LA to Vancouver, reassembled them, and decorated the screens with a new style of user interface graphics to replace those of the first two Kelvinverse movies. Then wrecked the set pieces as per the plot.

TOS movies are kind of their own thing to me. Meyer and Bennet had their own stamp on it that makes it feel unlike TOS in alot of ways

This is veering off-topic, but I think DS9's "Duet", "Far Beyond the Stars", "In the Pale Moonlight", "The Siege of AR-558", and "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" wouldn't have been done on TNG. I also have a hard time imagining DSC's "Point of Light" happening on TNG or in the JJ Films. "Point of Light" is probably the most archetypal episode of Discovery ever filmed and those five episodes of DS9 I listed would feel totally foreign on TNG.

But these are things that slipped through the cracks.

Note to others: This was just me going in full Lord Garth Mode thinking, "Challenge Accepted!"

DS9 really cough me of guard with "Far beyond the stars" I didn't expect them to actually say the N word on TV unedited

To me, Lower Decks doesn‘t feel like either. I mean, sure, it looks like Berman Trek, but it has a totally different style and feel going on.

While I am unsure of any actual evidence in favor of this notion, I suspect that Avery Brooks may have insisted on it, to give the viewers a glimpse of what things were like for black people back during that time. Unfiltered and uncensored. It definitely achieved its desired effect, IMO.
