I feel fortunate that I've managed to appreciate all five current Trek shows, in their own way, but only SNW so far really feels like classic Trek. Let's see where this goes.

When I saw S4E1 of Discovery I remember thinking Jesus can you let these people take a breath before the next tragedy/horror, thinking that they should have started with a regular contact adventure (like a fleshed out version of the opening business) and then lead us into the bigger badness - kind of like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But I still enjoyed it. I love all the Star Trek flavors.I like a lot about Discovery, especially now that they've leapt forward, and S4 seems to be ending really nicely. But there's so much persistent grief-filler that it saps my morale. A more positive iteration is welcome. Hell, I'm finding LD more likeable than DSC.
I am liking this new show a lot more than I though I would so far. It’s kind of giving me what I want without my realizing that I wanted it.
It’s waaaaay too early to declare SNW in a particular ranking with other franchise series. That said, it’s like they took some of the best things about TOS and modernized it just enough to still have the right feel but not over-do it…and I am admittedly really digging it right now. Both of these episodes have been highly enjoyable, I like all the characters so far, and the music and visuals are just too much awesomeness.
- The characters and chemistry have hit really well right out if the gate
- I love Pike. Fantastic stuff from Anson Mount. He has a weird way of being an “everyman” Captain who also commands absolute respect in a very believable way. I also really like the leftover fear and confusion he has to deal with after his premonitions on Boreth.
- The new Uhura is absolutely magnetic. This was a great showcase episode for both the beloved legacy character and the new actress.
- Everything looks amazing. The sets, props, uniforms, makeup, vfx….it’s all a feast for a Trekkie’s eyes.
- I have to admit that I’ve quickly come to embrace Ethan Peck as Spock. I always tried to convince myself that Quinto was a good Spock, but Peck has it nailed down pretty tight.

Engage. This is actually one thing I really don't like about modern Trek, SNW included – that apparently every captain needs to have their own catchphrase for going to warp![]()
Picard totally ripped him off.The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Pike said, “Hit it.” Pike had always said “Hit it.”

I’ve been thinking that since 1987.Picard totally ripped him off.
Little JL hard at work at Starfleet Academy, stealing catch phrases. Probably stole "Make it so" as well.I’ve been thinking that since 1987.
