I'm not ashamed to say that I had tears in my eyes during his speech to that alien world.

Oh, so it wasn't just me?

Though I did notice one thing. Pike’s log at the end of the episode seems to have used a Kelvin style stardate. He said it was 2259.Something, 2259 is the year the season takes place according to the costume descriptions. However Earlier in the episode the stardate was 17XX.

Yes I noticed that. An obvious, small mistake. The 2259 stardate is right out of the reboot, which is not a system I like.

Yep. They're doing it the right way.
An excellent comment. The best stories are usually rather straightforward. When writers try to have too many twists and turns they end up tripping over themselves.

It was a matter/anti-matter bomb, yes.
Would a warp bomb specifically create destruction by warping space? That'd be different from a M/A bomb.

A bit of advice for Pike and those writing his story. If Pike can kick the Prime Directive to the curb why is he so invested in believing in his "fate"? Trust me, when someone tells you "this is your fate, accept it" they are manipulating you. If fate is karma, then fate and karma are a trap. Ask any Buddhist. Karma is a trap we need to escape. Tell Pike.

Melanie Scrofano played Patel, the other Captain Pike was sleeping with. I didn't even recognize her.

‪‪That was a cool cameo, and Wynonna Earp makes sense as a love interest for our cowboy captain. Wouldn’t mind seeing her again. And according to the captions it’s Captain Batel.

Here's one - why are the landing party in uniform when they beam down but materialize in civilian clothes in an alley? A few tweaks to the transporter's transmutation circuits? ;)

They made some reference to "cloth samples" or something being in the transporter buffer... or something - I still need to re-watch.

Now, WHY they decided to do that instead of just dressing them correctly before transport is a bit of a mystery.

I honestly thought Such Sweet Sorrow Part II had a great implied explanation of why Pike's fate is unavoidable. Basically that while Pike has free will, he also has a great sense of right and wrong, and when he's needed, he will do the right thing every single time. As a result, his path is set before him because to deviate would mean absconding his sense of duty.
