Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

For want of another name...and considering the Nebula-class Phoenix had its reputation somewhat soiled by Ben Maxwell...?

You know, I have to wonder about the politics within the Federation in general and within Starfleet in particular around that name now. From Zefram Cochrane to Ben Maxwell? (Should I take that question elsewhere?)

It seems like it's fairly difficult to sully a name in Starfleet. Constellation, Exeter, Defiant, all came to bad ends in TOS at least in part due to their own captains/crews, and all had the names used for more ships later on.

The Oberth is 120 meters long. Presumedly that length includes the pod on the bottom. So the Eleos is actually longer than the main body of the Oberth. Though the Oberth is still taller, not sure about width.

Per ILM’s scale chart for ST3 the Oberth is 120 meters long

Ok, what the heck are you all talking about? I don't get these runabout comparisons. A Danube class is 23.1 meters. The Eleos is 119.7 meters.
And the Danube class RunAbout is 23.1 m x 14 m x 6 m (1 deck)
Eleos is ~119.x meters x ~64.9 meters and is about 4 decks talls

So the Eleos is quite a bit larger than a RunAbout.

Can’t speak for anyone else, but it was the mention of the Danube on the graphic shared a page or two ago that got me wondering.

I wondered about that comparison as well since you can't dock a shuttle onto a Danube.

In Star Trek Online, there’s a Phoenix-class capital ship and even a new Equinox class named in honor of the Nova-class vessel.

I suppose a Runabout is a fairly mainstream example of a small starfleet ship that can be employed to do grunt work. Whilst there are others like the Jenolan or the Raven, more folks are likely to know what a Runabout is.

Equinox? Really? 150 members of the federation, no other names of people, places, notable ships that aren't Human??

Which I really disliked them doing.

I didn't mind them naming a Class after the Reliant, it wasn't the original crew that did the the bad things with the ship.

I know what you’re saying about STO naming refits after notable ships of the class, but I also wonder how economical Janeway might’ve been about the truth about the Equinox to protect the reputation of the crew members. What they did was deplorable but desperate people do desperate things and all that.

She did demote the survivors down to crewmen. It would have been in her log, it would have to be a pretty convincing lie to cover that up.

I was gonna say perhaps she didn’t lie, just omitted a few key details. But a lie of omission is still a lie, as Picard himself once said. Who knows. Just another loose end they didn’t really get the chance to tie up when they returned home I guess.

Yeah, I wish the series hadn't ended on them getting home, have that as the mid-season two part and the rest of Season 7 being the aftermath.

I’d even have settled for a two parter that dealt with their return home at last. Endgame was a cracking episode but it would’ve been nice to see what happened with the Maquis crew members, Tom, if Harry was ever going to get a promotion and Seven dealing with some anti-Borg sentiments.

C’est la vie.
