I thought those three episodes were superb. One of the only three 10/10's I've awarded as of yet was given to one of 'em.
Ah, I see. When Winn showed up you thought that it was going to be a science/crazy-religious-dogma episode, like TNG's Who Watches The Watchers, but the episode turned into a conflict between extremists and moderates, which was less offensive.Actually, it was my gut reaction to Winn... More because, I have to say in many shows and films there is a lot of "see why religion is horrible" out there and not a whole lot of "there is both good and bad".
I thought most people liked season 2's opening. Some people don't like those episodes because they focus on Bajoran politics and there's a sizeable group of fans that find Bajor stories boring, but I thought they were in the minority.I'm very curious to see your reactions to the opening episodes of Season Two. I lot of people don't care for them, but I think they're awesome.

I'm enjoying star's reviews...as well as Jeff O'Connor's...
Keep them up!
I'm actually inclined to go back to DS9 myself. (In viewing, not reviewing...)

Thanks. I'm sure we both appreciate your kind words. Have fun!

I'm not Star, but I'd say it's more like, more true to life, in my opinion--though I still think the episode left something to be desired in that I think there were things Sisko and Keiko could've done that would've absolutely shot Winn's credibility while still maintaining academic freedom.
Religion in real life isn't all one thing or all the other like it was portrayed in "Who Watches the Watchers"...the real struggle is indeed between extremists and moderates, and rarely do the moderates ever get paid attention to--simply because like Bareil, they're not obnoxious. Getting to see that accurately shown did help keep the episode from becoming a disaster.
I am very interested to watch more. And I have a feeling that I'll like the Bajor-centric season openers. I found that the episodes that I liked best this first season dealt strongly with Kira/Bajorans or the issues they were dealing with post-occupation.
Thanks!I'm thinking too, that it might be interesting as well, since I'm a woman and Jeff O'Connor is decidedly not. LOL A sort of "He Said She Said" of DS9, perhaps?

Haha, alright! I am most assuredly male, so I think you're quite right on that one.
I really like that scene. It's over the top, but it's fun and has some good one-liners in there. Other than that, I really like these episodes, the whole Circle Trilogy is a highlight of the first two seasons for me. It's a pity they killed off Li Nalis, he could have been interesting down the line, and it strikes me as yet another early mistake the writers made because they weren't thinking ahead. For example...Alright... 2nd season, here I come!
The Homecoming/The Circle
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥- (9/10)
The bad: The only part that sort of grated on me was that scene in the first ep in Kira's quarters when everyone came to say goodbye -- it was great with just Odo, but when the others show up... meh. It was a little over the top (and really, why doesn't Bashir what the heck is happening?)
...Instead, insult something he cares about.QUARK: Never make fun of a Ferengi's mother!
I think that Winn could see the writing on the wall and was smart enough not to stick with the losing side. She may be a bit evil, but she's not stupid.Winn surprised me. Wasn't expecting her to support Kira -- especially considering the deal she made.
If you're really lucky, they might play a game of spring-ball together in the future. Now this is where you are going to tell me that they completely drop the Bareil/Kira tension thingy, huh?
I liked Kira/Bareil at the timeGlad you liked them. They're certainly not the best of DS9, but I'd rank them pretty high. They definitely don't deserve all the bad press they get from the minority that inexplicably finds them boring.
As for Bareil/Kira.... I'm not exactly a fan of the pairing, as I find Bareil to be a rather lackluster character (especially compared to Kira), but it could be worse. Given all the characters they could have tried to pair her up with, Bareil was a good choice.
Don't worry... DS9 is much better than the other Treks at tying up loose strings, you just have to be patient. As for the Kira/Bareil... I didn't need a relationship per se... I just needed some closure there. When he first shows up at DS9, I'm like "cool." But in the garden when he walks up to her holy crap the tension! It just seemed like they worked hard to build it up only to forget about even tying up that loose string.
But that's a pretty common denominator in Trek (and many other television series). Too bad it's not a cliche yet that writers would scramble to avoid. *groans*
