Stargate Universe SPOILERS!!

Where is this hatred when we do the Atlantis grading threads? :)

It's apparently not allowed here and/or those who feel that way have stopped watching the show. JMO, of course.

I'm not sure what to think of the premise. Honestly, I don't like the idea of the second ship being sent out to explore. I'd rather the ship(s) be sent for seeding Stargates. Becuase, what's the point of using a ship to explore when there's already Gates out there?

It's funny that people on a Star Trek forum are talking about how exploring the far reaches of space on a ship is a bad premise. It's actually hilarious in its insanity.

You might want to be a little more careful in your choice of words here, as they apply to other people on this board. Don't want to get started on the wrong foot do you?

;)

If you told me that...

(1) the next Trek series was about an ancient Preserver or whatever mysterious-but-boring alien vessel that was millions of years old and has been flying around the galaxies since then,

(2) TNG-era folks suddenly discovered that, say, every transporter in the universe can reach this vessel at any time anyway just be hitting an extra button on the console, and

(3) the series would be written by the VOY writing staff, be produced by the same producers, designed by the same designers, cast by the same casting directors, ec.

... then I'd be panning that premise too.

Like in The Caretaker?

As in TNG's Contagion?

And we have no proof of this either so there's nothing to pan.

^^^

Um, neither of those episodes really fit the situations I described, but more importantly, those are elements of individual episodes, not the premise for the series.

No offense, DWF, but does the word "denial" mean anything to you? :p

BTW, the same people who run "Atlantis" will run SG:U as well, although they may bring in a few new writers, (but if Martin "Dialog From Hell" Gero and Carl "I Wish I Were Martin Gero" Binder are any indication, I'm not sure that's a good thing). Unbelievably insipid and creatively stilted minds attract, apparently, hence why TPTB hire people who match their lack of enthusiasm and appreciation for the material.

There is no Stargate Universe yet so you can't tell me that it's be iing run by the same people how run Atlantis and there's no proof that they're going to be running the new series or even at this point if there's going be a new series. I'm not denying anything since there's nothing to deny, there's no official announcement of a series and I think bashing a show that doens't exist to be jumping the gun bigtime for something new bash for no real reason at all.

I couldnt of said it any better.

And if anyone here thinks SG-U will be out exploreing the new galaxy just watch Atlantis and see how much the gang acutally explores anything.

Its been almost 5yrs and im still waiting for them to explore, hell explore Atlantis itself would be nice.

Stargate isn't Star Trek it isn't about the exploration of space and they've done their share of exploration on Atlantis it just isn't the point of the show, but if they didn't do any exploring they wouldn't have met anybody at all or gone to other planets.

I just hope they make it a legitimaly new ship i like the Aurora/Orion but they dont scream ancient...it looks more modern day Tau'ri...thats been a big thing in scifi none of these ancient or extreamly advanced ships scream it...remeber crusade...the Excalibur didnt scream advanced at all.. iknow it was a hybird earth/minbari ship but it should of been more minbari
...The asgard ships aare done right but they got really lazy with the ancient culuture in atlantis i think.

It needs to have personality, the Enterprise, Defiant, Battlestar Galactica and the Prometheuse/Deadealus had it the Orion didnt

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

Sounds a bit like Farscape, which is a good thing. :)

But I have to wonder, why are they on this ship in the first place? Are they stranded and looking for a way back?

What's the catch?

I hope not, been way overdone and is extremely limiting, in a universe with advanced inter-galactic FTL drives and instantaneous travel through stable wormholes.

Plus, that was Atlantis's big thing for the first year. I doubt they would go that way again.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

My hopes for this project...

1) Make the ancient ship big, alien, and scary. More Rama, less Enterprise.

2) Cast Joel Gretsch in the lead... with a mustache.

3) Instead of the standard alien character... let's have an ancient robot.

4) Fewer visits to the Renaissance Fair.
