Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

My hopes for this project...

1) Make the ancient ship big, alien, and scary. More Rama, less Enterprise.

Agreed

2) Cast Joel Gretsch in the lead... with a mustache.

interesting choice. moustache though?

3) Instead of the standard alien character... let's have an ancient robot.
been done. Hows an all-human cast? That way, when they encounter something alien, they wont be able to turn to their new found alien companion and say 'exposition us up a bit on this then H'jk'lo'ouak'
Oh and no universal translator either.

4) Fewer visits to the Renaissance Fair.
Definitely. Was a nice conceit that the galaxy was populated by humans, and I'd rather have that than forehead of the week, but humans can be doing quite a lot more than 'medieval village'.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

Since the writers strike is over, i wonder if we will hear anymore about SGU?

Sad that i stil cant talk about this show, well concept on Gateworld. Pretty bad they censor and delete any talk about this.

The strike didn't have affect on Brad Wright and Robert C Cooper since they're both Canadians, but I think the show is still being developed and they're still having a problem getting it OKed for whatever reason probably fiancing the show. I wouldn't expect to see the show until 2009 or 2010 if at all.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

HMM if not for the strike then its odd that we havent heard much about it then. Maybe Scifi said No and they cant find any other takers.

We have no proof that Sci-Fi was involved with the show in any way it's MGM that wants the show, I'd say let's just wait alittle longer maybe we'll get some news after The Ark Of Truth comes out on DVD.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

Well they pitched the idea to Scifi so seems like they could have something to do with it if they decide to pick up the show.

Yes, but I believe that both are also members of the WGA.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

I wonder though, how will SGC find out about this ship and that the ancients sent one out before it to field stargates.

I dont think it be in the atlantis computers cause that just wouldnt make sense since im sure this ship was sent out way before atlantis was built.

Though it seems SGU might not get green lighted for awhile anyway, how does anyone figured out how the writers are going to have a team either it be SGA or SGC Team come across this info about this ship being out there.

My bet is they find the info on Dakara as it seems to be where the Ancients first came too.

Dakara has been destroyed and I don't see a reason it wouldn't be in the Atlantis database if the ship was sent out before Atlantis then of course it'd be there somewhere the only reason why it wouldn't be in there is if it was made and sent after Atlantis was abandoned.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

Ya know... while watching The Ties That Bind tonight, I realized that I'd be content if SGU featured Daniel and Vala (and a ragtag team of 5 or 6 people) in a series of Star Wars/Firefly style adventures aboard a small Millennium Falcon/Serenity sized ship.

That could be fun.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

I dont think the whole planet was destroyed, just the energy wave thingy. But i could be wrong.

It's funny that people on a Star Trek forum are talking about how exploring the far reaches of space on a ship is a bad premise. It's actually hilarious in its insanity.

You should read more of the Trek posts. There's plenty of debate regarding just how inherently exciting pure exploration is. That was the premise of ENT and it sure didn't help the ratings much. Random planets of the week are not thrilling, especially when they all start to look alike after a while.

No mustache, but otherwise, yay.

4) Fewer visits to the Renaissance Fair.

Definitely yay. :D

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

Dakara wasnt destroyed, just the Ancient device in the mountain. If the planet was a colony for the Ancients then there might be other sites around the planet. If not that then Atlantis might have something since its got a huge database that they barely managed to crack. And, if not that, then there is always an Ancient Repository of Knowledge but don't know how they would access it without killing the user now that the Asgard are gone.

Don't count the Asgard out just yet.

That'd be because that wasn't the premise; the premise was the Temporal Cold War. Pure exploration was what they did when they couldn't come up with anything to do with their premise. (And even then, the writers couldn't sustain that; they had to keep bringing in stuff like the Ferengi and Borg.)

I'm sure that Brannon Braga and Rick Berman believed that Enterprise would last seven seasons like the last three series did so the Enterprise story arc was a slow moving one at the start but that's not to say that it wouldn't picked up pace as the series went alone.

Actually the premise was "the right stuff" in Star Trek. The TCW was at the demand of the studio (they wanted something "futuristic"), so B&B had to force it in there.
