Star Trek Modelling (kits not people!)

I'm not really sure where this topic would go, so popping it here for now!

I enjoy making scale models in my spare time from kits (not studio replicas etc) and lighting them internally.
Does anyone else partake? Is there interest in seeing finished models etc? I'm quite a keen amateur but there are some insanely talented fold about.

So far I've done TOS Enterprise, JJ Prise and am currently working on Voyager with SNW Enterprise and Gallileo shuttle queued up.

Welcome!

Many thanks! I did try a search before posting, but I must have used the wrong keywords etc.

Yeah, I started the other thread, but I don't think another thread specific to Trek models is a bad thing.

It's been a little over 3 years since I got back into the hobby. I built plenty as a kid, but they were very amateur. Since getting back at it I've gotten progressively better with every build.

Here's a few of my builds, plus my 1/350 NX-01 I'm currently working on.

Some fabulous paint jobs on there. Particularly like the aztecing (something I haven't tried yet).

I can't seem to get images to work (maybe becuase I'm new?) but I'll post some when either I work it out or I'm allowed.

I better up my game!

Any tips for successful aztecing @HotRod ?

Also, do you tend to "seal" with gloss, semi gloss or matt?
For aztecing, just take your time and be patient. Get yourself good masks if you can, though don't be afraid to make your own with tape. Also, use only high quality tape, such as Tamiya. Lastly, research your colours. The trick to good aztecing is finding just the right colours.

As for finish, it can depend. Generally I'll do a gloss after painting, followed by decals, followed by a semi-gloss or matte.

That's pretty much the finishes I use. The gloss to aid decals then semi or matte to "calm" it down.

Colours.....bane of my life with Trek I'm afraid! I've settled on Gull Grey or Ocean Grey for Voyager, although I understand the actual studio model was Deck Blue apparently.

With colours, I almost always end up mixing my own. I'm a stickler for colour and have literally halted projects for months if I can't get the colour right. Things like DS9 were really problematic as it looks so different depending on the lighting used.

This is one of the best resources available for finding reference pics. Extremely helpful.

This is special…
