Starfleet Academy Official Trailer

I'm the same with Apple shows. I want to love them, but the pacing feels slow. Stopped watching Silo, The Morning Show, Pluribus... even Loot and Foundation. I don't know why but I can never really get into them.

Silo and Foundation are both slow-burners and both work better the second time around I found.

Both absolutely worth the effort, Silo probably more so.

The crew starts off every day playing the Weezer song throughout the ship's intercom.

I just typed "zoomies" into Google. The first result was for a clothing store named Zumiez. I refined to "zoomies slang" and it's apparently slang for "frenetic random activity periods." Google even confirms that the term for Gen Z is "zoomers" as opposed to "zoomies."
I just saw a commercial that went something like "go from zombie to zoomie". So it looks like it means the human equivalent of a pet with the zoomies, as opposed to a generational reference to zoomers.

So, minor somewhat off-topic update. I haven't gotten a chance to ask too many classmates yet. Just two in fact. Hard to remember to ask, and it's the last week of classes. The two people I asked what they thought a "zoomie" was said "someone from Gen Z who acts like a boomer. Born old."

Premiering January 15, by the looks of it!

The plot content looks interesting, and the other teaser does look interesting as well, but it certainly sounds stagnant with the usual corny piano music and such, and the color grading adjustments also feel sterile. Are audiences really needing 3 seconds devoted to telling them outright how the teaser/trailer "starts right now"? But, as they used to say in 1974, "a good story survives anything".

Trill?

Doesn't look like a Trillion was spent on it?

Just wait until they reach 7-digit codes. Will the NCC-8675309 be called the Jenny? Wasn't the song called "86753o9", but come to think of it that's even better as the use of alphanumeric instead of mere numeric opens up a far greater quantity of ships. :D Granted, if it was 867-5309, then how does NCC- -4442 look? :D

Also Athena, but with physical shield?

Looks like a microphone with a color palette geared toward teal... the 1960s had far more fun with the color wheel and the 1980s perfected it, even if the silver/beige was getting up there with triteness too.

This is even worse now with the recent real world rebranding

🤦‍♂️ :brickwall:

And more teal/orange, too!

Definite room for both, scripts can tackle any tropes* and the audience too is going to be as varied or more. Plus, TWOK was newer in the franchise run and used clever re-use in moving forward an established character, without feeling like contrived or excessively tropey "small universe syndrome". The pacing and build-up of the escape and Reliant takeover made the inevitable Kirk confrontation that much more delicious**, plus the added bonus that the two never met on screen.

* tropes aren't bad just because they exist; good plot twists and continue to weave wonders nowadays and they often became tropes for a reason...
** sorry for the corny use of verbosity

After this:

A Prime Lorca appearance would not surprise me at some point. Mirror Lorca couldn't have survived long in the 31st century for the same reason that the Empress couldn't. But Prime Lorca is still one of those lose ends in Trek. Losing Isaacs after one season was a huge missed opportunity, and having him and Giamatti in the same series would be fascinating.

Please no.

Lorca being out there somewhere needs no follow up.

Possibly a holographic lecture but that's it.

I would like to see Prime Lorca show up on SNW. Let's not forget that Killy is out their maybe also.

Article from 2022

Still, they can resurrect anyone they want from Trek at any time as a hologram (one of the unmade Generations stories was holo-Kirk, and it was an idea used in the novel Ship of the Line), so the option is gonna be there.

Now that Kirk's been resurrected as an incredibly realistic effect in the 2024 OTOY short I don't put it past Paramount to do something similar and create a holographic Kirk for the Academy that looks exactly like GEN or TWOK or even TOS Shatner.
