Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Starfleet is a military organization, so I'm not sure why a drill sergeant would be distasteful?

Anyway, she was the absolute highlight of those first two episodes and I'm one who was very leery of her in the run-up to the debut. Also, she can only deliver the lines she is handed and she did a bang up job doing it.
Putting aside the argument about whether Starfleet is or is not a military organization.

*points at their answer about why it was distasteful*
She pulled the full drill Sergent physical bullying act on someone who hadn't even registered as a cadet yet and dragged a random passing cadet who had just finished registering in to participate in said bullying.

So yes, I found the whole thing more then a little distasteful.

As a note, that whole scene would have gotten her in a lot of trouble in most actual military's. So saying "Starfleet is a military organization" really isn't the defense you seem to think it is.

Ok? And starfleet is fictional.

Point him out and giving correction is exactly a drill sergeant's job. There was no abuse there. She pointed out Mir's transgression and gave immediate punishment, likely based on Starfleet standards of conduct.

I just want to know what was in Jay-den's pack that made it so heavy lol it can't all be bird watching equipment, but maybe he likes physical books like Nahla

I love the idea that the universe is uniquely anti-Caleb, and Thok can get away with excessively harsh treamtent toward him specifically. Same as how the magic haircut arch let tons of other people through with long hair (including the guy directly in front of him) but inexplicably persecuted Caleb.

Pointing out and giving specific types of correction is a drill sergeants job in concerns to active recruits at specific times and specific places.

That's actually a really interesting point that puts another tally on the list of on how bad Starfleet has gotten.

Because forcefully cut a new recruits hair in real life and you're going to get in a shit load of trouble with various rights organizations.

Wasn't the Captain standing right there? I doubt Thok would've done something that Starfleet Academy frowns upon with her boss (the person reestablishing the whole thing), standing right there.

It's presumably easily reversible, the EMH managed to give Seven a full head of thick blonde hair out of nowhere centuries earlier when he de-Borgified her.

Given she was openly laughing I'd say that was more a case of her knowing her boss would let her get away with it.

Still violating bodily anatomy in a way that would ruin the life of people from certain cultures.

Fateors argument seems to be that Caleb wasn't a Cadet yet, but Thok refers to him as First Year indicating he IS, so the points being made seem defunct.
She can say what she want's, but we see him go on to complete his registration right after that.
