I am kind of disappointed that not only do I feel like they will waste Giamatti, I can't help but think how cool it would be to make him the star lead of a Trek movie or show.

I thought the same thing... until '09 happened.
Then I didn't think anything could be worse than that... then INTO DARKNESS happened.
As my wife rightly pointed out, the fact I see any STAR TREK episode or movie only once is proof that it was terrible. Just like those 2 movies, DISCO, "Subspace Rhapsody", PICARD season 2, and several other SNW episodes (mostly season 3).
Not only are we anticipating disappointment but creating an alternative show that reality will not be able to compete with.

Captain Rios was also cited by cadets caught smoking as an unwholesome influence towards cigars harmful to health and unbecoming of the health and fitness standards of Starfleet.
I will recommend to Admiral Vance that the names of Scott, Picard, and Rios be removed from the Academy's memorial hall.

It would be a surprise but It happens to me all the time. I didn't except Prodigy to good and it was. I didn't expect the Agatha show to be good. It was. Sometimes it works in reverse. Big expectations only to be let down like with the Daredevil show coming back on Disney plus.
Yes, there's expectations and then there is imagining a whole other show. That creates unrealistic outcomes.
It seemed to be made up of sequences obviously cribbed from scripts from the intended 10-episode season. Why they did that instead of just writing an all new script, is the oddest thing about S31, the only thing I can guess is there was some contractual obligation requiring the production to use what had already been written.
i wasn't expecting much of Prodigy from the advertising they did for it. It turned out to be some of the best trek of the new era , IMO.
