Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Do we know for sure what year SFA is set in?

The reason I ask is because if my math is correct (and it may well not be, I am hopeless at it) then the Nexus is scheduled to travel through the Milky Way in 3192. One year after the finale of Discovery.

I'm not saying they should feature it prominently, but wouldn't it be a cool nod to have them at least acknowledge it, if not study it for school?

I know some people prefer to keep remnants of disliked stories out of future tales, but I for one still hope to see Sybok again on SNW, and would enjoy even a reference to the Nexus existing.

The Nexus was a poorly-thought out plot device created to get Kirk and Picard together, which did not even act the way it was described in the movie.

With that said, sure, they could bring it back, and hopefully base a story around it that is nowhere near as convoluted as Generations. I personally would love for the cadets to rescue Picard from the Nexus where he's been for the last 900 years, showing that everything chronologically produced after Generations was just a figment of Picard's Nexus fantasy. :)

Does this include First Contact?

Ah, so that's how Kirk returns! :D

For those who don't have the patience to sit through the above video (I only made it two minutes and got sick of them alluding to how they might know when the premiere date could be) according to Trekmovie actress Gina Yashere (who plays Lura Thok, the female Jem'Hadar) apparently let slip the show is premiering January 2026. She did not give a specific date.

Oh god, wasn't Shatner in talks to play Kirk again awhile ago? He's gonna be a Nexus echo, all aged down with that Roddenberry Archive tech like the "Unification" short.

What does that even mean?

I'm guessing they mean semi-episodic, with varying tones from episode to episode.

I don't think they're going to go that far, considering we know there's a seasonal antagonist. But I do hope the individual episodes...feel like episodes. Because I'm getting tired of streaming series that try and set it up structurally like a padded movie rather than taking advantage of the TV format.

Since the Academy has a ship designed to leave Earth and travel in space, not terribly likely, but this will probably be THE most Earth-based Trek yet.
