Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

It's just that Vader orders a detachment down to Tatooine personally led by Praji. That's on screen. You wouldn't entrust secret plans to the local troops, after all. Praji knew about the plans; the locals only knew to look for droids.

I got the impression that while Tatooine and the Outer Rim Territories weren't integral, formal parts of either of the Old Republic or the Galactic Empire that the Imperials considered Tatooine to be something of a "protectorate" that retained nominal sovereignty under the Hutts but was unofficially within the Imperial sphere of influence and subject to military patrols, hence why the entire region was under the authority of Grand Moff Tarkin in his official role as Governor of the Imperial Outland Regions.

In the cut scenes with Biggs and Luke, Biggs mentions that the Empire is nationalizing things in the inner systems and that it won't be too much longer until they do the same all the way out "here" on Tatooine. With Lars becoming just another tennate to the Imperial machine. Luke's not to sure that will happen just because Tatooine is basically a nothing place, but Biggs, who's a city boy (from a rich family) that has been around the stars a bit thinks Luke should worry.

As for the Outer Rim, I was under the impression that it was absorbed into the Galactic Empire as part of the spoils of war at the end of the Clone Wars.

I'm not even sure George Lucas even cares about the geo-politics of GFFA given that he couldn't be sure whether the Republic lasted for either a thousand generations (ANH) or a thousand years (AOTC/ROTS).

Daisey Ridley hinted about Rey's parentage recently.

During an event in Japan Daisy Ridley may have let slip an important piece of information about who her character really is and who her parents are.
This is your final SPOILER WARNING!!!
When asked specifically about certain rumours that have popped up online about her parentage Ridley had this to say:
“I’m not sure how much I can say. I guess because I’ve said that I’m solitary, and that’s how I begin, that is probably a big clue as to what…it is.”

So it looks like she's Han's daughter but we don't know if she's Leia's daughter.

If Warwick Davis does return to the role of Wicket for a cameo in the new film it'll be interesting to see how the costume designers create a Wicket that's 30-plus years older than his last appearance. There were older, wiser members of the Bright Tree Village in ROTJ but I can't remember if any were depicted as being elderly Ewoks with graying fur.

That said, Wicket may have been so young in Jedi that even 30 years later he'll look almost exactly the same.

And they didn't look "old" by normal standards. Logray may have been the oldest member of the tribe if I remember his information in a Lucasfilm-approved visual guide from the last decade, but neither he nor any other Ewok in the village came across as geriatric or ancient.

They attempted it more with the Ewok movie but yeah, they definitely didn't have an old look to them.

Yeah, didn't Logray have kind of a Wilford Brimley look and vibe going on in the Saturday morning cartoon series? Ironic considering that Brimley co-starred in one of the two live-action Ewok movies around that same time.

One complaint that a lot of people make about that version that I don't understand, is the change in Anakin's ghost. It really makes a lot more sense for it to be Hayden Chritsensen since that was what he looked like before he became Darth Vader. I guess you could try say that the original actor was what he would have looked like if he wasn't all scarred up, but I still like Hayden there better. It also makes it feel more like things have come full circle. >>

I'm an official George Lucas apologist, but this one is terrible because Yoda and Obi-Wan are the same age as when they died yet Anakin, responsible for the deaths of thousands if not millions, is REWARDED with a youthful appearance from twenty years ago. If they replaced the other two with Prequel Era Yoda and Obi-Wan then it would be acceptable, but as is it's just internally inconsistent.

Earlier on in the movie when Luke asks Obi-Wan why he lied he was told that once Anakin became Darth Vader the good man who Anakin was died. So really the force Ghost of Anakin represented Anakin's appearance before he became Darth Vader.

I always looked at Old Anakin as the Anakin that should have been, the Anakin who didn't follow the path of the Dark Side. Seeing him as an old man showed that Luke had redeemed him of the taint of the Dark Side.

Young Anakin removes that.

And for good reason.

Darth Vader's one good deed, and a selfish one at that, should not redeem all the cruel and murderous actions he has committed after he gave himself so willingly to the Dark Side.

Not sure if this thread is only supposed to be about Episode 7 or if it's just a Star Wars catch all thread but here is my review of the upcoming Star Wars: Dark Disciple by Cristie Golden.

http://startreklitverse.yolasite.com/star-wars-reviews.php

Spoiler free version:

For fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this is a must read novel. Action packed, emotional, a great addition to the Star Wars story.
Adapted from eight unfilmed scripts for The Clone Wars season seven, this novel probably far outshines what the episodes themselves would have been. While we loose the visual spectacle of the episodes, the emotional depth and adult themes which are allowed to be presented in novel form make this the perfect story to have been adapted. I found myself, as I was reading, trying to figure out when the episode breaks would have taken place for the first half of the book. After that I gave up and assumed that the story was changed enough from the screenplay to make it too difficult to figure out.

While I'm greatly enjoying the new canon novel/comic/tv show inter-connectivity, the mention of Level 1313 several times in the story made me mourn the loss of some of what was sure to to come if Lucasfilm hadn't been bought by Disney and so many planned stories had been abandoned. The move toward inter-connectivity that Lucasfilm was already planning on would have been very interesting as well.
Dark Disciple picks up where the final tidbits of The Clone Wars left off, with Ventress a bounty hunter and the Clone Wars going very badly for the Republic. Quinlan Vos and Ventress team up to assassinate Count Dooku and sparks fly. This story on it's surface would seem questionable, but I found myself totally buying the Ventress/Vos storyline, and I grew to love Ventress as a character even more than I did by the end of The Clone Wars. Golden does such a great job of capturing Ventress's voice, which I suppose can be chalked up to having the screenplay already given to her, but still give her credit for some great writing. I became so invested in the story that I was almost to the point of wondering if Ventress and Vos would actually succeed in eliminating Count Dooku.

Not being a huge fan of Ms. Golden's Star Trek novels, I was very impressed by this first of her Star Wars books I have read. I hope to read more from her in the future.
I am sure that since this book was so good it will be a hit. Hopefully that will give Lucasfilm reason to publish more unused The Clone Wars storylines. I would love to see that Boba Fett/ Cad Bane teamup as a novel. More Mandolorians would be great. And we simply must see the final story of Ahsoka and Rex in what would have been the series finale. Plus, where is Darth Maul?!!!???!!!

I give Dark Disciple a 9 out of 10 stars! Keep up the good work Del Rey!
