Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

I kinda like her outfit. It's as if she adopted a little bit of Han's Corellian fashion sense in the years after Return of the Jedi. She still has the Princess Leia Organa vibe to her.

We lived long enough to see Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in a new Star Wars movie. That's pretty awesome if you ask me.

Yeah it is awesome.

I recently introduced a friend of mine who lives overseas to Star Wars and she really thought Princess Leia was so great.. always feminine, but taking charge and respected by her friends.. even with the skimpy outfit no one ever objectified her.

This whole movie will be like coming home again. And it doesn't matter if it breaks opening weekend records

Yeah, and there's also a strong similarity to the outfits that many officers and guards wore at the Rebel base on Yavin IV in A New Hope.

Senator Organa, you seem not to have your lightsaber today.

I don't need a lightsaber to best you Chancellor.

After all that she's been through and overcome one of the best things about these images is knowing that Carrie Fisher is back in action as a co-star and leading character of a film that will no doubt be one of the all-time biggest blockbusters. She's earned this comeback to the world spotlight and I can't wait to see her bringing Princess Leia back to the big screen after more than three decades.

Leia's mother wore at least one similar outfit during the Prequels, though as far as I can remember it didn't have a vest of any kind. The apple doesn't Force-levitate far from the tree when it comes to the Skywalker bloodline.

She looks more like a homeless lady on Alderaanian who pushes aroudn a cart collecting bottles.

Perhaps the worst part: she doesn't look right or comfortable in it. At least Ford looked right and at home in his get up's during the original trilogy.

 You can see that Fisher is standing in front of a backdrop, and that it's obviously not a still from the film. According to Flying Spaghetti Monster's article, the picture "looks like a wardrobe photo from a costume fitting." In other words, how comfortable Fisher looks in costume is irrelevant, since all that matters is whether it fits.

Yeah, costume fittings/tests don't necesarilly reflect the final look of the character. There's quite a few of these for Star Wars, some of them have even been used in publicity pictures/official projects, such as the ones showing Harrison Ford with clearly shorter hair than he had in any of the films. There's also the Boba Fett wardrobe test, which I think is the only such test from any franchise to be made into an action figure!

Plus this might not be the only Leia look in the film. She had two (although similar) costumes in the original film, around three in ESB (Hoth outfit and the two Bespin looks), and five (the bounty hunter, the 'slave Leia, the fleet look, the Endor camo and the Ewok village) in ROTJ...and of course with her mother Padme, she had a different look almost every scene!

Then of course there's those weird TNG makeup tests seen on some of the DVDs/blu-rays I think.

I admit it's not the most exciting costume ever, but it does seem very consistent with the more hands-on, no-nonsense type of look Leia had in much of ESB and ROTJ (with the Hoth and Endor outfits), where she wasn't afraid to get dirty and dress in the same basic kind of attire everyone else was.

I know most were probably expecting her to be dressed in white regal robes with a lot of fancy ornamentation in Ep7 (and I'm sure we'll probably see something like that at some point), but it's also nice to see her in something a lot more practical as well.
