I hate to say this... you're right
Star Trek is stuck. If it continues to "tried and true" formula, it will continue to be repetitive and end up where at 48, ill be the youngest viewer. And if it tries new things, then it's not Trek and Im not watching.

You can't please anyone, so let's just put it out to pasture.

Yeah. Its so much now. Young people do not want to watch the massive black log. They tried a true reboot 18 years ago and it didnt work. They made the mistake of tying it to TOS. Will a full clean reboot with a totally different crew work? Maybe. But I just think the idea is spent now. Im sitting through SNW looking at my watch now. Its not really exciting me.

But it was a test. Seemed like it would've been more appropriate to show up in a college professor garb. Judge robes were fine, but had been played out already.

Yeah. She was a teacher. Why is she wearing the colors of the judges?

Q are just very judgemental. They'd have probably exterminated humanity if Trelane failed his school project

No. They probably would have ignored humanity as being beneath their notice Trelane passing his exam is what brought the attention of curiosity to the Q.
If they were to do Year One:

  • It wouldn't be called that; and
  • It would not be a single-year series.

No it wouldnt. It would be the entire 5 year mission. But if it was going to happen it would have been greenlit by now. I think paramount wants movies with a fresh start. We are at nearly 1000 trek episodes now. Its gotten so tired we are getting puppets. Also ratings are way down. There is no incentive to do another series now.

I don't think that it not being greetlit yet means that it definitely won't happen. Paramount say here that they 'have series coming back.' The 'back' part sounds like it possibly could include Year One: https://trekmovie.com/2026/08/18/paramount-exec-touts-next-iteration-of-star-trek-tv-its-imperative/

The showrunners say here that they still have the sets (just in different locations) and they're waiting to hear from Paramount one way or the other. https://trekmovie.com/2026/08/26/in...f-season-4-year-one-and-doctor-who-crossover/

I don't think it will happen but it's a possibility.

The first article doesn't mention Alex Kurtzman or Secret Hideout, at all. I have a feeling even if they end up using Secret Hideout as the production company, Alex Kurtzman won't have the same creative supremacy that he enjoyed during the current run of shows. Sounds like Chris Parnell is the one that will have the "oomph" next time around. Overall, it sounds like the prattle you hear when a major sports coach is about to get the axe.

The "back" part would be Starfleet Academy season two and Strange New Worlds season five. I imagine there will be no Year One or Star Trek: Legacy. Except perhaps in comics and novels.

Can they make it without Kurzman or Secret Hideout? The cast is definitely not the problem. I wonder if the idea headed by someone else is a possibility?

My point was BSG and SNW are very different and a comparison is fruitless.
Yeah, I get that. But BSG and DS9 get compared all the time, and no one has a problem with that. In fact it makes sense, as BSG was created by a DS9 writer and they touch on some of the same themes.

BSG and Voyager get compared as well, as they're both about a long voyage home and in some ways BSG was an attempt to fix several perceived flaws in the show.

Enterprise aired at the same time as BSG, so it was begging for comparison. Both series ultimately became about people facing the death of their civilisation and whether they can be worthy of survival.

You can even compare The Good Place to Star Trek: The Next Generation, as the two series are well-written genre shows about a group of loveable characters discussing philosophy as they work out a moral solution to their problems.

But if Strange New Worlds has strayed so far from what the original show used to be in a desperate attempt to chase an audience that doesn't want what its selling, relying on second-hand gimmicks borrowed from series like WandaVision without understanding why they worked, I guess it can only really be compared to the recent series of Doctor Who.

Sorry to all the people who are enjoying these episodes, I guess I'm just in a snarky mood.

To be honest I've never heard BSG and DS9 compared. They are so different that again it seems odd. It was likely the Ron Moore connection as you say.

VOY and BSG I can see more of a case as they are a ship that's basically fighting for survival while searching for Earth.

As a general rule I've always held that it all starts with the writing. If you have good writing, any competent troupe of actors can pull it off. If you have bad writing, good acting can't help that. (Except on rare occasions where the performers can rise above the material.)

It's like Stevenson said about public policy: "Bad administration, to be sure, can destroy good policy, but good administration can never save bad policy."

I doubt that they're watching individual episodes.
Whoever gave guidance that specific about how to calibrate the dream thing -- and what to leave in and out of it -- had to have watched the episode. At least enough of it to have an overall opinion about whether the puppet stuff was actually going to work. Season 3 feedback will not have covered that scenario.

Jörg points out that some of the preview images shows Una talking to a tellarite, but that never happened in the episode. Deleted scene?

The TNG actors managed for most of two years.

The writing on SNW is quite good, especially as compared to other Star Trek.
