Then you had SG-1 which did 'space adventure of the week' better than either of those two Trek shows, throw in a couple of dogshit-tier TNG movies and Trek has been second rate ever since, unfortunately.

Berman/Braga Trek did not evolve to compete, and NuTrek has done nothing to rehabilitate the franchise.

Enterprise is double plus good..

I would be entirely unsurprised that the dream ending business was studio interference. I don't know that feedback from season 3 would have been necessary as a motivator; just watching the episode could easily have done it.

I think it's probably for the best that the Year One thing doesn't come about, personally. But that's me.

I doubt that they're watching individual episodes. I doubt anyone at Paramount cares that much about individual stories and they have no reason to be invested in canon. The choice to make it a dream and make certain that Spock and La'an came to end suggest to me that they felt that these were unpopular elements of season 3. I've noticed that Christina Chong repeatedly said during interviews that Spock and La'an would break up. This surprised me because they usually talk about the plotline of the season. Telling people that the characters break up would be a downer for some fans and is likely going to stop some people from investing or being interested as the breakup is inevitable and coming soon from the fans perspectives. They also don't usually spoil upcoming plotlines. Given that Paramount told them to refilm it and Christina and Ethan said the characters would break up in almost every interview, I would assume that Paramount felt the story was not rating well and asked them to end it and be clear that it would end. I would think (but obviously don't know) that this would be in response to feedback from season 3.

The nature of a prequel though, we knew they had to break up so in this instance telling people they were going to is reassuring people that the prequel is going to do its job and reach the status quo it has to.

Oh, they could most certainly stretch out Year One to more than one streaming season. Just because one can does not mean one should, but that would be absolutely doable. Remember one season of the original show could be upwards of 24 episodes; the first season was almost thirty.

If they get it (a huge if) then I'm sure it wouldn't be a one off season. I don't think they could get too many seasons, probably not 5, but I think they'd be okay for 3. I think it would just take place over a shorter time frame. Each episode could have a week between them or so rather than a month. I don't think they'd lose anything with that approach.

I would miss Pike though as he's my favourite and I'm less keen on this version of Kirk. Hopefully they'd convince Anson to guest star.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is back on the streaming charts following an episode that took the series out of its genre comfort zone. The typically sci-fi series is back in Paramount+'s top 10 after releasing a new episode, titled "Like Chronitons Through the Hourglass," on Thursday.

Plus, the courtroom is the thing described as accurate in Encounter at Farpoint, not Q's outfit.

Don't you get it? It's okay when Berman did it, because he got what Star Trek actually IS (or so I say these days). However, Kurtzman does it and it's WRONG and ABHORRENT as he is hedonistic swine and I will continue to think of him as such until twenty years from now when someone else is in charge of the franchise and they become the target of my hatred making Kurtzman seem okay now.

Well, whaddya know - people holding the Kurtzman era to a double standard again?

And it's also worth pointing out, in the twenty-five years since that episode aired, not one person complained about those Q wearing the 21st century judge's robes. Yet, Kurtzman does it with a character who is only implied to be a Q and we see That Crowd pull out their pitchforks and torches in rage over it.

I went to the showing of TWOK and Space Seed on Saturday. My sister and I were on the younger end of the audience. Most people were in their late 60s to late 70s. There was even a lady in a walker. No younger people at all in the audience. Definitely no teens or twenty somethings.

Sounds like I theatre I went to to see Beyond ten years ago.

Since the current expectation is recapturing the glory days of the Berman era forever sleep but not be a bad idea.

I have absolutely no memory of that scene. If you showed it to me out of context I would say it's a cheap fan production.

Voyager really jumped the stark when it fuked around with TNG protagonists. Not sure how much I was really even paying attention by the end.

But it was a test. Seemed like it would've been more appropriate to show up in a college professor garb. Judge robes were fine, but had been played out already.

Why? Doesn't really make much sense. The judge robes were shorthand for the Q. So they could have them but not mention them to preserve the precious canon.

From my perspective? Fuck that. Trust in your audience's ability to pick up what you're putting down. That lack of trust bothers me today and it bothered me in 1988 when they changed the Romulans because they were afraid people would confuse them with Vulcans.
