No new sets or AR Wall usage.
The forward lounge uses the wall iirc

Kirk was there to try to hook up with La'an. He as much says it.
No, he said he came to hang out with his brother.
Yeah, they kind of played it robotic, didn’t they? (Except Chong, of course.)
Uhura wasn't very robotic either, she felt the most true Vulcan out of all of them.

But I think that was the point, each of them embodied different aspects.

Couple other minor observations:

The scene with the music when the "absolute badass" Vulcans were walking to the transporter room, and Pike was doing exhibition drill with his Lirpa . . . Anyone remember Blade 2 the first time the vampire Blood Pack was being led by Blade on a mission? Immediate callback.

That little number that Number One was wearing at the end in the bar scene with La'an. I sincerely hope we see Number One wearing that little number again some time. Whoo, mama!

I'm giving this one a 6 only bc it's funny at times. Otherwise, in a season of 10 episodes, it should've been left in the shit pile. Be sure to watch the post credit scene.
PS. If I ever had even a niggle of a doubt that SNW was NOT Prime Timeline, this episode firmly kisses that doubt goodbye.

2, 4, 7, 8. None of these will be on my rewatch list. This one gets a 4 from me. It wasn't as bad as I feared, but could have been much better. The plot was dumb, the comedy didn't work for me, turning a fight with an augment Vulcan with designs on conquering the galaxy into a dance wasn't ... logical. The whole episode just felt too contrived, forced, whatever. It didn't flow, it was a hodgepodge of scenes, not a story. Oh well, on to next week.

Reading this thread and seeing the comments about comedy reminds me of this:

Ouch, TrekMovie's review of this ep is pretty negative... Their comment section has been a notorious hell hole for years, but the writers there are mostly pretty positive... I think every one should take a big step back, wait 5 years, and re-evaluate this episode... I think it's really misunderstood and underappreciated

I am glad that Trekcore is giving it a very positive review though!

enjoyed it more than I expected to. A solid 8 from me.

Some moments did make me laugh out loud.

Every character, pretty much, had something to do, and their little character arc. A solid ensemble episode.

Great to finally see Cetacean Ops in live action!

But, let's get back to serious episodes for the last two of this season, please!

Yeah, it wasn't as cringe as I imagined it would be, but it was still pretty cringe. Watchable, but probably my least favourite episode of the season so far.

I’m pretty certain the original plan was for them be transforming crew members. When Uhura and Beto are in the lounge and get confronted by Erica, he has very prominent ears hiding in his hair.
