Really liked this one! I think as someone mentioned before, it's in the vein of 'The Magnificent Ferengi' or most Lower Decks episodes; it's just fun! And I thought it was very funny, well written comedy. With Spock Amok and Charades, I think this forms something of a 'comedy Vulcan'-trilogy. I know many people are going to fall over an episode like this, and this will give 'notorious YT-haters' more than enough fuel to stab at Kurtzman-Trek... So be it... Glad they did this one (but looking foreword to two more serious epic final episodes of the season!)

I give it a 6. I didn’t hate it and had a few laughs but there are far better comedy episodes of SNW.

The only thing I object to is that Spock would never admit to Vulcans being jerks.

Otherwise, pretty fun. I also accept the "out" of essentialism that their change was due to using Spock's DNA and his many-many issues.

Yeah I stopped watching when 'Doug' the vulcan showed up and proceeded to rattle off about his sister named susan and cousin pete or whatever. I'm all for comedy episodes but the humour fell flat Honestly, the show is turning into a sitcom at this point. SNW has really lost me this season.

I've decided that Season Three was written by the lower decks writers after they were let go.

It's the only thing that make sense.

Were there really THAT many comedy episodes this season..? Apart from ep 2 and 4, the rest was fairly serious was it not..? Assuming the final two episodes have a serious tone as well, I think ‘turning into a sitcom’ is overdoing it…

I file this one under "Excuse Plot."

None of it makes any sense scientifically about why the serum makes people act like extreme Vulcan stereotypes except for La'an who is stereotypically Romulan.

But it's just an excuse for the joke and acting ridiculous for an hour.

"Just go with it."

A 5 for me. I missed the after-credits scene because the "you might also like" choices came up as soon as the credits began. :(

Christine dumps Roger like a runaway warp core. Ouch!

My adoration for Marie only grows stronger. "Your sorbet sucks!" :guffaw:

It is...it's a shore leave episode. What could possibly go wrong?

I'm guessing Beto spends most of the time in the shower seeing as Vulcans are offended by human odor.

Pelia needs her own spinoff series.

Of course Scotty is going to Scotty!

Nice Jellico moment with the shift adjustment scene.

Unfortunately, there was a great deal I disliked in this episode. But there were highlights. Marie’s breakdown scene was terrific. Some of the La’an storyline was hilarious (and Paul Wesley’s Kirk has thoroughly blossomed at this point).

Not much else, alas. But I went in uniquely skeptical, so I’m not all that disappointed. I’m glad this has clicked for some folks. I’ll take the writing in “Spock Amok” over it, any day.

Edited to add:

For the folks who are wondering what was up with La’an, her “showdown” scene toward the end includes a line from Spock confirming the high likelihood that it was related to her Augment side. They lampshaded the Romulan thing in an earlier scene because Pike and La’an are both quietly familiar with that race, but the script later makes it quite clear that it’s an Augment thing, nothing more.

6/10 for me.
Probably my least favorite episode of SNW. Still watchable, but not one I'm interested in revisiting.
I didn't hate it, but I think it could have been better told. The only part I hated was the on-the-nose foreshadowing between Kirk and Scotty. "Oh, I can definitely learn to like scotch!" "Oh yeah, and we sure make a good team, huh?" Hurr-de-durr.
It boggles my mind that so far they've managed to avoid anything that clunky with Uhura (or especially Spock) and Kirk, but they throw that in here.
Just in general very meh to me.

Woah.

That was so much worse than I was expecting. And it's nothing to do with the episode being "fun" (the shield so many use to try to claim that people who don't like an episode are somehow deficient.) I liked all of the wACkY eps of seasons one and two, so don't @ me. ;)

It's because the attempt at fun was so awful.

At this point I am officially in pre-mourning for SNW. This season has been a a few moderate highs and too many low lows. Because they are so far ahead in production, I expect season four to be an even harder double-down on what isn't working for me.

It brings me no joy to say this. I am dismayed to potentially watch a show I liked disintegrating before my very eyes.

...Also, some of Mount's line deliveries sounded more like Beldar Conehead.

Dumb as hell, but kinda fun. And I emphasize the "dumb."

I love Chapel's Vulcan tricorder. The ENT Vulcan tricorder design, but with a handle.
