Yes, it was established in the first episode of the series.

M'BENGA: I received your orders, Captain. This is Nurse Chapel. Nurse Chapel is on civilian exchange from the Stanford Morehouse Epigenetic Project.

This is turning out to be an awfully long exchange program.
Maybe she has a provisional rank/position based on her civilian experience, but they only ever call her nurse.
I assume she's the head nurse.

The only Decals they could find when scavenging around in supply were from before 2033. Or, construction was started on the ship they eventually used before 2033, and they didn't care to worry about how many stars were on the flag when they finally launched. :D

The 52-star decals were lost in the Third World War. :)
US Flag code today says you are allowed to fly a 48-star flag, so presumably once USA gets these new states (hopefully not canada), they are allowed to use a 50-star flag on their designs; Or, because they are scavengers, at an early time they scavenged the ship that has 50 stars, and it's not their original ship.

Does anyone know what the "T" on their uniforms meant?

This episode was fabulous. I liked that we don’t really get a lengthy explanation of who these scavengers are. There were times I was thinking it could be the Doomsday machine, the repair station from Enterprise, the dinosaurs from Voyager, the Hirogen. Heck with all the talk of greed I thought we might see a Ferengi and these scavengers were a multi species crew.

But when then alien didn’t shoot Pike, I wondered if they might be human… maybe the ones from the ISS Enterprise we saw in Discovery.

But seeing the flag at the end with the explanation… that was genius. Only thing was I didn’t realize the ship frame was from Star Trek lore. I saw the flag and thought it might be the core module from the International Space Station . Especially with the line that the ship seemed to be from what was left of a space program.

Anyway. This episode was fabulous.

Is Alvarez Korby's inspiration for Andrea?

Is Alvarez Korby's inspiration for Andrea?
How and why? She's on the Farragut. When would Korby meet her?

Is Alvarez Korby's inspiration for Andrea?
That's making a gigantic logic leap. Regardless, not everything needs to be explained.

Really liked this one. Though I do think the torpedoes/nacelle trick worked a bit too easy.

A stingy 8.

Was not a huge fan of Eps 2 & 3, though they were fine. Maybe my expectations were too lofty for Hegemony II, but it was good, if not great.

Really strong through 4, 5, and 6. S3 in full stride now.

I really liked this one too. Good solid Trek story. TOS was a little before my time, but I did grow up watching that crew in the movies. And I must say, I'm really enjoying this show and these versions of those beloved characters. 🖖🏻

Give TOS a chance. TOS was before us Gen X'ers time as well but we watched and loved it. It has a very 60's feel to it but that is also part of it's charm because it gives it a unique feel, not seen in any other of the Trek shows.

Is she though? She wears rank stripes (granted they are bullshit ones) and she has always made it sound like she is affiliated with starfleet.

I know she says she joined Starfleet to find Korby or words to that effect but that could be recontextualised just like Pike's temporary promotion to fleet captain just so he could have authority over the Farragut (guessing that tactical directive hadn't been written yet).
The nature of her job is rather vague. In the first SNW episode, M'Benga introduces her as on civilian exchange. Yet, she wears a full uniform, was given a rank (I think they refer to her as lietenant commander at some points?) and served in the frontlines in a war zone, none of which a civilian would do.

Again, the writers seem to have forgotten that Chapel is a civilian. I'm not sure how she can be the ranking medical officer, or even how a trauma nurse and bio-researcher could be said to be qualified to relieve someone of command but maybe the assumption here is a full hierarchy, so the crewman who cleans the test tubes would become ranking medical officer if everyone else is dead? It's also possible she has been given a field promotion to acting Ensign I guess?
I assume Chapel is operating under some kind of temporary commission that gives her a clear place within the Starfleet hierarchy. Like how T'Pol or Odo can give orders to Starfleet officers, Phlox can threaten to relieve Archer of command, or Kira can command the Defiant, despite none of them belonging to Starfleet.

Just finished the episode and haven't read any of this thread yet...I may post more thoughts again after reading through but:

My first thought on seeing the scavenger ship was a Budong from Farscape. I thought we were going to battle with a big space creature.

Excellent episode, one of my favorites. This episode is what Star Trek is. More of this please.
