Nor should they expect it to. It's a non issue.

It's a show not a historical event.

Many of us have followed and supported star trek all our lives. Its legacy is important to many of us. When we see things like std and its bad writing, cartoon cross overs, puppet episodes, etc. you bet we get concerned about the shows legacy. Its an issue to us.

It's ridiculous double talk I hear. There are claims that no one liked newer Trek, no one watches it, no one likes it, yet somehow poses a risk to everything a Trek fan holds dear.

It's backwards. I like a lot of newer Trek and don't for one second believe that Trek's legacy is at risk. It's manufactured anxiety masquerading as something useful.

The best protection of Star Trek's legacy is to talk up the stuff you enjoy, not belittle and malign stuff you don't.

So im not allowed to not like certain treks and complain about them and say they stink and are ruining canon and legacy?

What's ruining them?

I don't like certain Treks, and think some recent SNW episodes stink but ruin?

Its a non issue to you but there are others who take it a bit more seriously.

Agreed 100%. NuTrek apologists don't stand for anything.

"No one watches it, no one likes it" translates to nobody new is watching it, it's not attracting new viewers, but the storylines and whatever else they are doing is to do just that.
Unfortunately it's the older fans that are watching NuTrek cuz there is no new Trek besides what's being offered.
And what's being offered isn't up to the standards it once used to be and that's what makes a lot of fans upset.

Supernatural fans weren't scared of their show's legacy until the final two seasons and that stupid reboot completely destroyed the show's legacy.
GoT used to be the biggest show in the world up until S06 but the last two seasons completely destroyed any goodwill it had with fans.
The Boys hit it out of the park but then S04 happened.
And the less we talk about TRoS, the better.
So yeah, as a fan of Trek, I am worried cuz what's being offered isn't clicking at all.

Fans have the right to talk about both.

Well it will be over soon and your suffering will end.

Please. You speak for yourself and a small amount of fans. Don't get all dramatic about some silly stuff. Star Trek was never as serious as you make it out to be.

If you don't like what is being made right now, don't watch it. There are plenty of people that do like it. The majority, most likely. The reason you think you are part of a majority is because like most extremists, you shout the loudest. And the idea that all Star Trek fans immediately jump behind their computers to discuss all episodes and movies is simply not true. Most of us watch it, like or dislike it, and move on. Do we really dislike it, we stop watching. We do not go online and complain that 'our legacy' is being ruined.

I do not agree with this argument.
This is not just a show, it is a part of a whole universe that many people love and have followed for decades.
They have every right to share their opinion. I do not believe it is hate watching or trolling.
Mostly frustration.
Instead of telling them not to watch it, you can simply not read their posts that seem to annoy you. After all, Star Trek was never as serious for you.

Plus it is nice to read different opinions about the same topic. It is fascinating.

Ok. Stop watching.

If it's not up to standards stop consuming the product. Mindless consumption because Star Trek is actually counter to supporting the supposed legacy.
Fans have the right to talk about both.
"Belittle" and "malign" being the words I used, not talk about. Much is made of insulting Kurtzman and newer Trek productions and it's fans. Sadly, been a part of my Trek experience since grade school.

Exactly so. It's ok to not watch it. It demonstrates the ultimate control over us fans have.

I feel like there's a comic book story along these lines. Maybe written by Peter David at one point. @Therin of Andor , you would know. Does this ring any bells? The crew visiting a Star Trek convention planet?

I may be thinking of a She-Hulk issue, come to think of it. Or maybe Dreadstar.

Anyway.

They could also go the "Visit to a Weird Planet"/"Visit to a Weird Planet Revisited" route -- due to a transporter accident, the characters swap places with the actors. The actors have to defuse a situation with the Klingons, the characters have to deal with being on 21st-century Earth on soundstages.

SNW writers: I can be reached via my email on file with TrekBBS for contract negotiations. I'll settle for story credit.
