Kind of surprised the Klingons didn't just vaporize the place from orbit instead of leaving it intact.

They don't usually play careful with bioweapons.

And you'll note that's the only example in the entire Trek franchise, including non-canon material of Klingons ever engaging in an orbital bombardment.

I hate zombies (which is one of the many reasons I hate the Borg), like hate zombies, but I loved this episode. The character work is *chef's kiss*. Seriously, how often in Trek's history have they had such great actors with so much good character material? It's astonishing. I gave it a 9.

Also, on another note, warrant officers are canon in Trek now, which validates my use of them in my fic universe.

Prodigy made them canon back in 2022.
And was almost a thing in the TNG era

Single black pip was originally intended to represent chief warrant officer, not chief petty officer.

So I took two things away from this episode: Pike is not a snitch, and I don't want to see any more zombies, vegetarian ones or not. It was interesting how seemingly the A-story became the B-story to M'Benga's reckoning for past actions. A bit DS9-like justifying an assassination because a mass murderer was the target--M'Banga can live with it--and the honorable Klingon death by undead. Loved the "human stench" quip, and she did a serviceable job in her role. I liked the way the slow-boil insubordination by Ortegas played out, but the shuttle solution being "just in time" was a bit to pat for me, as cool as the shuttle design was... we'll see what the consequences are for her. Also glad Scotty got some semi-meaingful screen time, some of it floating around in the transporter room. The mild meld scene was jarringly well done and extraordinarily well acted, especially by Peck, who in my mind has established himself in the pantheon of Spocks. It'll be interesting to see how the Gorn/human duality will play out as well. Almost a 9 for the Spock/Patel and Pike/M'Benga interactions, but the Ortegas bit with the shuttle plus a great deal of filler replete with (yawn) zombies brings it to a still solid 8 in my book.

Like this first twi, this was a good not great episode. Glad there was some fallout for "Closk of War" though I am surprised Pike is so OK with Chapel & M'Benga lying to him about it. And with the fact that he did it.

Still, the twist with his Kingon House was good, though.
