She has been discommendated, so there is no chance of any honor to regain. (at least as I understood it from TNG)
The Klingon explained it:

- Yes, her entire Family was discommendated for what her father did.

- Under Klingon Honor Code for this type of discommendation, it can be absolved IF the Firstborn of the family assassinates said Traitor.

- If someone else assassinates the Traitor; then the Firstborn must fight and defeat the Assassin in Ritual combat for the discommendation to be absolved/lifted.

Klingon House discommendation existed long before the Klingons became spacefaring, so discommendated Klingons still had to live in Klingon society - and I'm sure there were many reasons for, and ways to absolve Family discommendation.

Don't think the peril worked for a couple reasons, some of which I noted upthread:
  • As this is a prequel show, and both the characters survive until TOS, we know on an intellectual level neither is in any danger.
^^^
This is such a strawman argument.

I swear do you REALLY believe ANY of the main characters are going to surprisingly die?
(Because when they DO decide to kill one off it's ALL OVER the Hollywood trades weeks before the episode airs.)

That's true for EVERY Star Trek franchise series starting with TOS up through SNW.

If you must believe there is genuine peril and that main characters will die permanently from week to week, then no weekly TV or steaming series shows any 'real' danger to the characters.

The drama doesn't come from wondering IF the characters will live/die but rather from "How will they solve this weeks crisis and plot complications.

Aren't Borg drones essentially just technologically based zombies?
They were really depicted that way starting with Star Trek: First Contact.

The mission was "off the books" only in that they didn't ask permission. There's no way Starfleet's not going to know about it afterwards.

Why Starfleet whistles and looks the other way after this sort of thing repeatedly happens is the real question.
Because Christopher Pike & Robert April are "Buddies", and he knows April will cover for him should any of the upper brass asks what's going on.

No, because he is not going to die but I expect Batel will make a noble sacrifice this season
Na, they're obviously setting her up to transform into one of the "normal" Gorn and then go on to be the reason the Gorn went from being Xenomorph lites to the more humanoid versions we see in ToS and Lower Decks.

Without getting nitpicky or even saying too much what I liked or didn't like about the episode. But while watching it I just felt bored. It really was not that Interesting to me. I did like seeing the Klingon D7 nice subtle update. The Klingon makeup is now where it should have been on Disco season one. It what I expect it to be now BUT I would like to see some smoothy heads to kinda remind us that many Klingons decided to stay smoothy headed after the virus.

So better than last episode but just not great. 6 out of 10.

So let's see what they've done to our legacy characters so far this last season.

M'benga murdered a Klingon ambassador in cold blood.
Nurse Chaple lied to cover it up so is an accessory to murder.
Captain Pike after finding out his doctor and friend murdered someone on cold blood on his ship let's it slide and doesn't report it. This may make pike an accessory to murder as well.

Sigh.

It wasn't in Cold Blood per se as Dr M'Benga gave him a real chance to back off and walk away. We really didn't see how much the Klingon Ambassador was fighting behind the screen as well. But no I don't consider the murder to be cold-blood per se.

Also said Klingon was a major war criminal, so now I don't shed any tears whatsoever for the character.

As for Christopher Pike's response. 100% human and no he's not going to throw a good friend and comrade under the bus for killing someone who very much deserved it.

Most Star Trek main characters of done something morally questionable.

Par for the course.

I enjoyed this one. Utterly daft.

Pike's whole relationship is severely fucked, though. First, it's not his body and at no point his choice what Batel chooses to do. Second, the dumb fuck is gonna be in a beepy wheelchair in 5 or 6 years anyway, so really he needs to take a step back and either tell her what he knows or step away because pretending all is good is just going to be cruel.

Ortegas getting spicy is interesting, reminded me of the flashforward from the end of season one where she was Styles.

What the hell was Una doing with her hair? That look did not work.

They may be afraid of blackface accusations but hiring African ethnicity actors to play augment virus Klingons might avert that.

I had not thought of that..I'm not sure but I think the ST:Enterprise episodes had them various skin tones. I'm not sure.

I think he did in the previous episode Batel talked about it being hard knowing she was going to die or something along those lines and Pike told her she was preaching to the choir which she had no follow up questions about.

Indeed, by that reasoning, there's no point in watching PERRY MASON because you know he's going to win the case. Or watching COLUMBO because you know he's going to solve the murder. Or buying the new issue of BATMAN because you're pretty sure he's going to beat the Joker in the end.

Heck, did anyone really worry that the Nazis were going to win in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK? I'm guessing that didn't stop most of us from getting caught up in the story anyway
