Picard (The show) suggested Worf was well known for killing Gorwon.. IIRC Sisko gave him the nudge.

The incident where Worf didn't leave Jadzia behind was one where Sisko said it'd be on his permanent record IIRC as well.

There's a display in the science lab that resembles the M5 interface

I really enjoyed this one! It's an 8.5 but I've rounded up to a 9! Best of the season so far!

It has some nice taught horror and action. A spooky and creepy atmosphere in an abandoned research station. Some great character moments with Pike and M'Benga. Man, I love M'Benga.

I also love how they rectified the mistake of the previous episode where M'Benga (and I called it) killed the Klingon guy (sorry, forgetting the names). In that episode, I felt they weaseled out of making it clear that he did . . . and they fixed it here. And the discussion with Pike afterward was perfect. Great drama!

The one downside was the ease and speed in which the Klingon chick got to the planet. Ok, so she detected M'Benga and was like instantly at the planet. I know. Speed at the travel of the plot! But it was so abrupt it took me out of the story momentarily.

More like this please!

I don't think that it was ever meant to be ambiguous that M'benga killed Ral. He says as much to Pike when he says the man killed children. Fans just assumed they wouldn't make the doctor carry out an extrajudicial killing. This was just to clear it up.
The original episode fell short in that aspect. Yes, I thought it was clear he did but many didn't think so. And the confusing way it was portrayed robbed it of some drama. This was a good fix. Although, it would've been even stronger if the it was portrayed better in the previous episode.

2. Pelia has never worked for me as a character on this show or as chief engineer, and it's too early for us to see Scotty, IMO, nor does 'young Scotty' really sell as a younger version of the resolute, tough Montgomery Scott from TOS.
Agreed on both points.

I want to like Pelia. She seems like a cool character. But they've never really used her effectively. More as comic relief. But her long life perspective and experiences could have been a cool addition.

And, yes, regarding Scotty. He was always a bit older than the other characters in TOS. I get the idea of wanting to show him grow here but he was already going to be more mature and not a younger person learning their way this close to TOS. Not a big deal really. But doesn't quite ring true to me. At this point, Scotty will have had numerous adventures on various ships and not learning the ropes.

According to MA, Scotty was born in 2222 and SNW season three is around 2260. Martin Quinn's real age is 31 years old so not such a huge difference. The TOS actors looked old because that generation who were adults or teenagers during WW2 were born looking old.

The real question is why Scotty got stuck at a low rank till his late 30s and why he suddenly took up drinking circa 40 apparently. Even his Kelvin timeline counterpart who had that scandal with Archer's dog was promoted way faster than Prime Scotty

He used to work on freighters according to TOS.

Anyway, I really am beginning to realize that SNW's Dr. M'Benga (other than Anson Mount) is being played by one of THE best of the best actors in all of Trek. He is absolutely riveting. Once this show is over, I am going to go rewatch those two measly little M'Benga appearances in TOS and thank our lucky stars that we got SNW. Because the writing and acting for this character is absolutely stellar.

I've really been loving M'Benga and totally agree. Great writing and acting for this character! All the characters have been great but he really stands out.

I mean that Scotty was older than many of the other characters on TOS. He wasn't young like Chekov, Sulu, and heck even older than Kirk (I believe).

So, Scotty is 38 at this point in SNW and would be in his 40s during TOS going by the info you quoted. And that fits with what I'm saying. He's no spring chicken just learning the ropes!

My main point is that I don't buy Scotty being at this flustered, unsure of himself point right now. Sure, it's possible. I get it. It makes a nice story arc tying into how he is in TOS. But it doesn't ring true to me at least.
