Decent character driven episode. Canonically it doesn't make much sense though and yet again I have to say they should have just made this explicitly a reboot if they were going to play around like this and then it would be fine.

Trelane appears to derive a significant amount of his power in TOS from whatever that machine was, which has always made me not buy the explanation of him being a Q. Also he appears to not know much about humans and still thinks it's the 1700's, which doesn't work if he's met humans before. Also why doesn't Spock recognize him in Squire of Gothos?

The update on the green wraparound is GOATed though.
He’s a Q who can go to any timeline he likes. I would operate under the assumption that this event happened AFTER The Squire of Gothos and Trelane/Q Junior is older than he was in the classic Trek episode. He knows Spock here and he is actually trying to do something nice for Spock by giving him his heart’s desire. He screws up and gets petulant but he started out wanting to do a good thing. The Voyager episodes might be sometime after this one in the timeline.

To me simply casting Delancie is not enough to make it "official" . Maybe if the entity said "the continuum " or some other Q specific reference or Trait...than maybe But he didn't . To each their own . It felt like the producers said " Hey Trekkies have always speculated Trelane maybe a Q, let's get our good friend Delance to do the voice, fans would love it." That's how I saw it. Nice little nod but that's it.

it seems to me like a... "stretch." Like they were going out of their way to not same names or use familiar looking objects, the kind of stuff Enterprise would do. We didn't say it so it doesn't violate canon..

Like if the entity with DeLancie's voice wasn't a mistake but the sphere object we see him as in TNG S1 episodes.

And this also confuses me - let's say for sake of argument , the familiar voice we heard means that they are indeed Q,... for a moment let's assume this- ...are people actually saying the Q we saw in TNG who tormented Picard is actually one of the same as the Wedding Planners Father?

You're not thinking fourth-dimensionally. ;)

Since he says "Trelane" is still a "child", though eons old, this would mean it's a Q and Q2 from far, far, far in the future.

Ahh I see. So using an actor who played the original Q to do the voice is a "tell" to the audienc that this is a "relative" of Q or of Q lineage . Got it 🙄

What other conceivable reason would they have to cast that specific actor as the father?

To play on the fan theories speculating that the Q and Trelane are related? Delance does voice work and it's not a stretch this a inside joke-ish homage. Not necessarily an official cannon "revelation "

What was Delancie official credit for this role?
