Absolutely loved this episode.
Again my only real complaint is that it was too short. This might include the use of that pesky cliffhanger ending.
The Batel thing was yeah, predictable. Lots of people called it here. Didn't mind that. (just cut off the hand if it's localized  OK that's grim. It's probably in the bloodstream or something. I'm glad they left her fate open.)
Great looking adult Gorn. I'm a fan already.
Glad I didn't get spoiled that Scotty appears. When he was first shown, I thought he might be "Ensign Doug" from the cold open, but as soon as he said but half a word I was like "OK, real Scotsman, can only be one guy, GREAT casting, great lines".
Also loved the TNGesque solar activity talk and that Sam Kirk was useful.
I'm more or less satisfied how they handled the Spock Chapel situation. As long as they don't go full TOS-continuity slave (no Korby please), I'm OK with the roller coaster.
I'm not sure I liked the hesitation at the end by Pike. I hope it's not going to be a plot point and was only done to get on our nerves and to accentuate the cliffhanger.

Still holding out hope that if the strike gets sorted out and filming can start with like 2-3 months of delay, we might get S3 in 2024.

10 (and I don't give those lightly) :bolian:

Absolutely triumphant season. Pretty much the platonic ideal of what I want from a season of modern Trek. Whatever quibbles I might have had about the first season (and they were many) have been almost entirely erased. The cast feels at home, the writing feels more confident and, probably most importantly for me, it's rewatchable as hell.

My only genuine issue is how few episodes we got. Give me a good 13-15 episodes of this a year and I'll be content.

The colony being a midwestern US town? The small universe syndrome of Palia knowing Scotty, Scotty's appearance just adding more for the original series and not allowing Strange New Worlds to stand on it's own, and the continued confusion that is The Gorn as Star Trek's version of Aliens.

I'm OK with the colony looking like an archaic midwest town, just as a shout-out to the way TOS used Hollywood backlots.

And given the dates and the established histories, it would be weird if Pelia didn't know Scotty.

As someone who grew up in the '90s and '00s during the era of Hiatuses, I'm used to it.

Now I'm thinking of the way I reacted to "The Best of Both Worlds." I had no idea that anything was up, but I thought we were getting close to the end of the show. And then.. "To be continued"..

Still the most surprised I've ever been by a TV episode.

I gave that an 8. I enjoyed the episode enough, even if it didn't wow me as much as many episodes this season have. Perhaps I'm a little bored of the Gorn and just didn't think they deserved a cliffhanger moment.

That said, it was fun having a cliffhanger again - how many years has it been?

Scotty! :techman:

It's going to be a long eighteen-month-to-two-year wait. Hopefully, I'll be able to get up off the sofa at some point before then. :wtf:

What will Pike decide?
