I think we should just accept this as a new canon and let the show-runners use them as they have been. The ship has pretty much sailed at this point, and, as it happens... Time Traveling Romulan!

Yes, but people have been saying this ever since the Klingons first got bumps. (All through the 80s, there were cries of “ST I never happened!”). We would have lost a lot, had we listened.

And that town, maybe I’m wrong but is that the town from ‘Reacher’?

Could be. My money is on Unionville (it's closer to the studio) but Port Perry is also an extremely common filming location for quaint "American" towns and not too far away. I don't know the towns well enough but I know we have Toronto members who might.

Holy shit Scotty!! They sure kept that one quiet. I really like this Scotty too, so far. The young Scotty who wasn't banished to an ice planet for 6 months.

A lot of scenes echoed the Kelvinverse movies. Spock jumping was only seen for a second but it was 100% Kirk and Khan, and the saucer crash was a TV budget version of Beyond.

And a cliffhanger! Which won't be resolved for years now with the strikes and stuff:scream:

Really good episode.

Same reason people today love Renaissance fairs. The romanticism and nostalgia of a "simpler" time.
Yeah, this colony, the Omnicron Ceti III colony, even the space-hippies seemed to have become overwhelmed by technology and wanted to live life a bit more simpler.

It seems so weird to take that out of context. It's like when Ben Sisko gave everyone side eye for cosplaying in a simulation where Black people would have been treated extremely poorly.

But I guess that's in line with Nazi Planet, Gangster Planet, Old West Planet, and Rome Planet. lol

Nostalgia is a helluva drug. At least they aren’t the hardcore types who reject modern medicine and technology.
But they do... since they needed Starfleet to come and inoculate them.

It's just weird to be so oddly specific... about a time where, in Pike's eyes, is around the same time as the start of the American Civil War and WW3.

Google says Reacher was filmed in Ontario so that tracks at least. lol

You would wonder why if Earth is such a paradise,so many people want to go live on colony worlds.
I understand the colony that Picard had to negotiate with in Journey's End at least, considering how Indigenous peoples have been abused and exploited by the dominant powers for centuries.

Heck, it'd make sense if these people were actually descendants of the Amish and wanted a place where they could be away from technology entirely... but 20th century American midwesterner is an odd identity to want to preserve. lol

Because it's there, Spock.

Which is why I make it work together. Treating it as separate pieces is missing the point of what the stories are trying to do.

Though I'd happily ignore TMP quite easily.

Wanderlust, curiosity, independence, xenophobia, isolationism, there are lots of reasons. Look at the Amish in the US, who live their lives as if they are 200 years in our past. Why would they do that? In their case it's religious reasons.

Well that was decently tense episode, but left me with too many questions.

That 'all American' town was a dash odd; that is a weird thing to base a town off, though it was nicely 'futuristic' where it needed to be.

Why have these people set up outside the Federation? With no defences?

So if they are going to drop a demarcation line, why destroy the Cayuga instead of telling them to withdraw?

So a disruption field generator on one part of the planet and screw up the whole planet's comms and transporters?

Does this planet only have one town? Ok, if its 5k people I can see that, but really no farms, no exploratory outposts?

Nice to see 'deep baritone' April again.

Can anyone just walk into a Snr crew briefing now? Kirk should have been thrown out for interrupting.

Where are La'an' security teams? That shuttle can take more than went down, a lot more.

Anyone else expecting 'Pike's box' to be projectile weapons?

Using the debris field to fly to the surface was a nice idea. but if the other debris is not dropping into atmosphere why did the Gorn not see the shuttle?

Why is Pelia recalibrating the deflector shields herself and not having a crewman do it?

Scotty? Scotty? Well not the intro I expected for him but ok, his juryrigging might be exactly what they need.

CME activity affecting the Gorn? Interesting idea.

So they are just going to drop the saucer without checking for any other survivors?

Spock is the 'only one' who can do this as he is alien? Why? And what about those Andorians we saw an episode ago? Surely more than one person fitting retro rockets would be faster?

Pike, Batel, and Scotty leaving without telling the others? And La'an let them go?

Chapel is the only survivor? Really?

That EV suit bay was dreadfully conveniently placed heh? Could not have found Chapel a weapons locker as well heh?

Adult Gorn are annoying, its more like the ENT design - I do wonder if these are Gorn teenagers out on a jolly though, particularly since they still have tails!

Scotty's shuttle - could we wear our Alien influences any stronger?

Why did Spock need to place a retro-rocket inside the Bridge? Its only firing into the interior? Odd choice.

Liked the fight though, felt like Z-G.

Of course Batel is infected.

And I suspect you could have talked Hemmer out of it Pike, you had plenty of time to talk to him or stun him or something instead of letting him goto his death.

Dropping the saucer does stop the Gorn from getting any UFP data from the computers I guess.

Mass beam out? Def alt universe! Or obviously not Starfleet.

Is it me or does Scotty look like he's going to setup a wicked console gaming session with all that stuff in his arms?

If Batel has eggs - do any other any survivors?

So the Gorn have the crew and start firing on the Enterprise? Why? From the Gorn pov what did the Enterprise actually do but stay in orbit? The saucer of the ship they broke smashed into their tower with no evidence Starfleet was invovled. Yet they kidnap some lunch er.. people AND start a shooting war over it?

Ah, the dreaded 'to be continued' I wondered when we would get one of those for SNW. It is going to be a long wait for Season 3.

Overall, decent season I felt. My favourites are Ad Astra per Aspera and Under the Cloak of War.

But they do... since they needed Starfleet to come and inoculate them.
If they rejected modern medicine Starfleet wouldn’t be there at the colony’s invitation.

On the Ready Room Mount said it was filmed on a backlot

I highly recommend watching the Ready Room, Some good BTS info on the Gorn puppets and suit.

I just watched it.

Being SNW - it is fantastically produced, it looks and feels movie -like, and the character work is absolutely fantastic. I literally live every character on screen, even the ones I don't really like, like Pelia.

However there are many small things that irked me a bit this episode:
I don't like the Alien-rip off (again), Chapel being the only survivor on the whole ship was too convenient, the retro colony is stupid (Stargate regularly was able to depict futuristic societies on a budget with just a few clever gadgets) and while I do like the Scotty actor, I absolutely don't like this show turning into just another TOS reboot/reunion. I hope Batel repeating Hemmer's fate is just a misdirection.

I absolutely love the Gorn in a space suit! That was dope.

So... ugh. I'm a bit unhappy where this show is going. But I wouldn't notice, because I absolutely enjoy the heck out of every second. Makes it really difficult to give a grade:guffaw:

If I can have one wish for season 3 however - it would be too stay away from anything legacy characters or plotlines, and stand on their own feet. That's when the show is (imo) the strongest.

Why try the new pizza place down the road if you love the one you've gone to for twenty years? Living outside the box a little. Being bold. Seeing if the new digs offer something exciting you can't find in your familiar stomping grounds.

Besides. SOMEBODY had to be the first colonists on this planet, Vega Colony or Terra Nova.

Anyone else think of the 2013 Star Trek videogame when they see the SNW Gorn? They're visually quite similar.

Although McCoy's line about performing a C-section on a pregnant Gorn makes exactly zero sense now.
