I hope this leads to good things for Uhura's self image.
With Sam singing backup to Chapel alongside Ortegas and Uhura, his death and the lack of effect on the Enterprise crew feels more conspicuous. Then again, I don't remember if Uhura or Chapel are even in that episode.

Okay, that was perfectly fine and was packed full of the continuity we like and fanwank. Screw the people having meltdowns.
It was a great episode, ignore Twitter Blow hards.
Bonus points to the writers for getting David Marcus' conception timeframe right. This is in 2260 and the Okuda chronology has had him born in 2261 for the past, oh, thirty years.
Btw, was M’Benga the only one who didn’t sing himself?

Uhura's songs were my favorite.
They knocked this out of the goddamn park!
From the Easter Eggs (Corby, Pregnant Carol) to the story development (discussing Una becoming more open and this potentially driving Kirk's leadership approach, La'An coming to terms with her feelings, Spock feeling knocked back about Chapel taking the role) to the goddamn songs (Bruce Horak as the Klingon doing his best Kanye West impression, the poignant lyrics at times (Chapel and M'Benga on the first number with their looks and talk of cutting like a knife), learning more about what happened between La'An and UE-Kirk)
This could have easily been a bit hokey and whilst I was disappointed not to get Colonel Worf's dad singing some of that Klingon Opera that "our" Worf loved so much I think this has been yet another in a string of perfect episodes.
I would like to see the Klingon's dance routine in LDS as it does feel like it would fit there.
This had similar feel to the episode of Scrubs with the woman who has a tumour in her brain (I think) which causes her to perceive everything around her in song and similarly it had some really heart felt beats to it.
Also reminds me a bit of some of the musical episodes of Community
Jess Bush in the Amy Winehouse style song was class

Hey, I grew up finding myself singing songs from the Albert Finney Scrooge soundtrack in the middle of the year and to this day will break into a spontaneous rendition of "Thank You Very Much" with no prompting whatsoever and nobody else to listen. I can roll with this episode. 
That was pretty good. The songs weren’t as dst by as Buffy’s or Batman’s musical episodes but they were still good. The Uhura and La’an ones were probably the best. I was expecting a Klingon rock song though. What we got isn’t what I would have done with them.

Are some of the cast weaker singers than others? Of course.
Were a couple of the songs duds? Sure.
Did I have an absolutely delightful time anyway and cackle and clap like some demented seal throughout? Absolutely.
Just one of the most charming, uplifting, and daring entries in the franchise. A fucking wonderful episode that had no right being as good as it was. Celia Rose Gooding is a revelation.
I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I like it when it's obvious an actor isn't a singer but they still give them a chance to shine. In real life most of us sound like, say, Pike or Spock than we do Uhura or La'an and I like that.

I think Ortegas literally says “I’ve got a theory” at one point too.
I hope this episode helps normalize bursting into song wherever you are. That energy would be awesome!
