I don't mind the men/women ratio. This is a different reality than TOS, so it doesn't have to be the TOS boys club.feeling so much Friends call back, but I do wish this show had more characters that was even to the girls.. when spock joined the ladies at the girl night out, I realised that there were 4 girls and 1 guy ,which is almost the near average ratio of male and female characters since the show has only 3 guys (Pike, Mnegba, Spock) to 6 girls (Peelia, Una, Laan, Ortega, Uhura, Chapel) with the ensemble cast.
I think spock like in the Friends world, may have benefited if he had more guy pals in SNW. perhaps get a male perspective advice on his relationship like ross had with chandler and joey.
I like feminist comedy but if you go that route and make it good you need more male characters pull it off,
I just don't care for some characters being intentionally underwritten or made to look like fools, to elevate other certain characters up. Takes me out of the episode.
Probably why I consider "No Way Scenario" as the best episode of Nu Trek. All the made players (Picard, Riker, Seven, Beverly, Jack, and Shaw) all had something significant to contribute to saving the ship and had their moment. Perfectly balanced.
I do not give you permission to speak this way little man. I have agency and many upper hands.
Aight Grandma, thanks for that.
That's why I said it didn't work for me. Great if you're into that. Not my preference.Aww. Feminist focused stories.
1) It was already established in TOS "Amok Time" that female Vulcan elders have a great deal of authority over things like marriages. I am under the impression that Leonard Nimoy, Theodore Sturgeon, and/or D.C. Fontana intended to imply that Vulcan is a matriarchy. Either way, T'Pring's mother being a dominant force in their family is fully consistent with what we have previously seen of Vulcan family and marriage dynamics.
2) The only male character placed in any sort of "submissive" position was T'Pring's father. The Vulcan who interviewed Christine was in no way in a submissive position, and neither was Spock.
Nothing about Spock in DIS or SNW is in any way akin to Ashton Kutcher
The interviewer was, by the end of it when he wanted more out of Christine and got shut down. Nu Spock was totally in a submissive position due to his situation. It's fine, it works for Ethan's silly version of the character. I definitely got Ashton Kutcher vibes in the way that Ethan played it. Very..Dude, where's my Katra.
