Why should he? Every once in a while he dips in to some history bit and hears about his dad.
Kirk in the Kelvin Timeline was a genius-level misdemeanor criminal offender until the age of 22. If he ever heard the name of Khan Noonien Singh he probably didn't care too much or it went in one ear and out the other.
Kelvin Kirk "graduated" the Academy in 1 year.
It's a four year course.
That means he skipped three years of classes and three years of reading.
No one should respect him, or trust him.
I thought it was three years?
KIRK: It's yours. (to Pike) Four years? I'll do it in three.
It was three. Kirk enters the Academy in 2255 and most of the film takes place in 2258.
Nope. Per the film and time card he joins and then it is "3 years later."
I mean, why should he care?
People NOW often don't care who Mussolini or Idi Amin was. People aren't going to change that much in the next 230 years.

Boy, if only we had a follow up film where we were shown that people struggled with respecting him and trusting him.

I don't know if this week's episode has aired in your country already, but we get a lot of "real" Kirk here.
Nah he's perfect as pre-TOS Kirk.
US Intelligence allegedly made these mock-ups. I'm sure someone could (and has) made better ones with modern tech.
