Like the James Bond movie franchise, Star Trek on television has turned into a boring soap-opera.
1/10.
Have you ever watched TOS or TNG? This would fit right in with them. Though maybe with more subtext.

which flew right in the face of "The good of the many outweighs the need of the few"
It was to prevent a war with the Klingons, it was a needs of the many situation.

That theory would work if they hadn't shown ENT Illyrian makeup on a wall monitor display in Season 1. Una was looking at images of Illyrian children and some looked human like her and at least one looked like the makeup seen in ENT.
And there was a comic that took place between seasons showing the ENT Illyrians, Spock even mentioning that they may not take kindly to a ship named Enterprise contacting them.
Yes comics aren't canon, but was made in collab with the show's writers IIRC.

Of course, they weren't pure soap opera like modern "Star Trek".

Indeed, in the hands of competent writers this would've served as a an excellent analogy of LGBT+ rights, but the logical hoops (especially during the questioning of April), stale writing, unlikeable (or rather bland) characters and the "Federation is bigotted" makes it tedious.

I think some of season 1 was the best Trek since the third season of Enterprise, but I did hope for a return to an episodic formula rather than the soap opera format.

This was nothing like a soap opera
while I agree, I look at this definition: "In soap opera storylines, previously unknown children, siblings and twins (including the evil variety) of established characters often emerge to upset and reinvigorate the set of relationships", look at Spock's family the look at "a character's death is not guaranteed to be permanent.", look at Spock again and just except, that this green blooded bastard single handedly soaps up this sci fi show since the 60s

The Young and the Logical.

erm.... have you seen the LGBTQIA+ allegories in the Berman era? most of them were absolutely horrible. the convertion therapy TNG episode stands out as one of the most problematic episodes of Star Trek, right behind Code of Honor

How? The whole point was that "conversion therapy" was horrible, which, btw, was a real thing when the episode aired.

So...you don't think it sanctioned the brainwashing therapy to which Soren was subjected? Because it kinda did.
I think they thought they were being critical but they didn’t carry it off (owing to a number of factors, I’m sure).

Oh no doubt, good intentions were probably there, but the intentions themselves don't make the final product better

Can you be more specific? The "treatment" "worked" but considering how horrified Riker is about to the whole situation I can't see how you get the episode sanctioning brainwashing from that. Brainwashing "works" sometimes in real life too.
