Why wouldn’t they? The serum clearly increases strength and speed. So why not bone density and skin toughness?

Need we remind some about the fact that late 20th century and early 21st century Earth science led to Khan and the Augments, human beings with an average of five times the physical strength of average humans? Scientists from pre-warp Earth could create people that could take down squads of Klingons and barely break a sweat.
