WHY HAVE WE LOST SIGHT OF GENE'S VISION™?!?!?
If only we hadn't thrown out his glasses...
They've got a word for that: Mojo, baby. Yeah! (Read that in Austin Powers voice...)

In other news unrelated to Cooleddie's post, people keep bringing up Babs's martial arts background. That's totally irrelevant. The question is not whether the actor has a martial arts background, but the character. Is Dr. M'Benga a Brazilian jujitsu expert?
He could be.

I brought it up as an example of someone exhibiting skills outside of their “lane.” If we see M’Benga using Jujitsu skills, then I think it’s safe to assume he’s trained in the art. Just like Kirk became a horseman because Shatner was. They might have done the same with Linda Park’s Hoshi, who suddenly became skilled in Martial Arts.

They were both bleeding and pretty beat up when they got home. Who knows how many broken bones they had, and where? Obviously, whatever pain they felt from injuries while juiced up did not bother them a lot while under the influence.

How did the folks who object to this deal with Kirk fighting the Gorn, BTW? That was some Grade A bullshit, right there.
It's fun finding the double standards for Star Trek.

Kirk beating up a giant lizard man, or fighting a giant android, or fighting off a Klingon warrior? Yawn.

Scotty, Chekov and others going toe to toe with Klingons in a bar room brawl? Passe.

Engaging with Klingons with swords inside a ship? Just another day.

Look, this isn't even just a STAR TREK thing, or even a woman action-hero thing. Movie and TV fight scenes are almost always going to be "unrealistic" because Hollywood is seldom going to want to mar the movie-star good looks of their leading men and ladies.

So, yes, Kirk or whoever is going to constantly get hit and kicked in the face during all-out fistfights, but Shatner is not going to be sporting a black eye, a fat lip, and broken teeth for the rest of the episode -- because nobody wants to see that. See also people in movies getting tossed through windows, thrown down stairs, and then springing up ready to fight afterwards. (Aside from maybe a few decorative cuts and nicks that won't stick around fro long.)

Chapel can fight Klingons without getting her face messed up because it's a TV show, and they're not going mess Jess Bush's good looks any more than they would Shatner's back in the day.

Wait until Jess Bush is pregnant and they have her fight Klingons again.

Maybe they should've gotten 6 foot tall Gwendoline Christie to play Chapel, the Klingons would be crying for Kahless while she swats them away.

EDIT: Just to clarify, the above is just a joke, I'm fine with how Jess Bush is playing the role and have no problems with her beating up the Klingons that other posters seem to have.

What?

Is that what this is really about? People have an issue with the blonde girl beating up guys? Shades of BVTS.

Oh Buffy? I was thinking about Kira Nerys, when Nana Visitor was pregnant with her and Siddig's kid......

Okay, this thread/forum is getting too entertaining. I can't wait til Thursday.

Hey, worked for Kira on DS9... ;)

To be fair, Kira didn't fight Kingons while she was pregnant. (Neither the character or actress, because Nana gave birth during "LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN..." while Kira didn't have the baby until 5 episodes later.) The last time she fought Klingons before her pregnancy was in "RETURN TO GRACE"... 11 episodes before "BODY PARTS" was produced.

Kira did fight Silaran in "THE DARKNESS AND THE LIGHT" though, which was the episode directly before "THE BEGOTTEN".

I don't see anything wrong with a character having a fight scene while pregnant, but I don't think that would happen while the actress is actually pregnant. Too many potential safety issues for the actress and the baby. All it takes is for one stunt to go badly. Too much of a liability for producers to allow.

Some Enterprise episode. I don't remember which. I remember saying to myself, "They just lifted this from one of their own Voyager episodes."

ETA: "Chosen Realm"

The ending of which was essentially just a blatant ripoff of "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield(TOS)" but still a better and more engaging episode than most DSC and PIC offerings.
