It's not an actual rule but a naval tradition. All my Navy friends say they have hundreds of those, usually very stupid but fun ones.
What, catchphrases?
I'm imagining a US Navy guy saying "take us to warp" now.
Interesting that in-series by the 24th century they all seemed happy enough to just say "Engage". Which makes the whole Seven thing in Pic 3.10 a bit odd. In the franchise, if you zone out it's really the two Captains Pike who made this a thing (Punch it/Hit it) with "Let's Fly" following on.
I was more lukewarm on the first season than most, I think. I thought it was solid, but nothing special.
This, though? I thought this was fantastic. Took all the quibbles I had about season 1 and dialled them back. Seen a few people say that the first episode was the weakest of the batch of 6 that people have seen? If that’s the case, I’m gonna have a hell of a time.
Peck as always, is remarkable. Just hitting it out of the park in every scene. It’s also easy to see where all the budget is going with these new shows, ‘cause this looks incredible.
Solid 8.

I view it as a soft reboot, or an alternative universe, and find that greatly improves my enjoyment and appreciation of the show.
TOS is so horribly outdated, just forget all about it.
I get that. It's just too many alternate universes for me.
So does La'an have the headpiece to the Staff of Ra or not?
I view it as the same universe and not to take canon seriously because the United Earth Probe Agency shows just how much the writers have always cared about canon.
ENTERPRISE is a bigger mess of Star Trek continuity than this ever was and I liked Enterprise just fine.

I don't like the flashy camera stuff like the flipping upside down when they jumped through the hatch in the floor. ( I mean.... Why?) A lot feels like too much.
Carol Kane I'm mixed on, I think Im going to like her but we can get her a lozenge or something?

You know you’ve got a pretty solid cast when your “leading man” is only in the first 5 minutes and the episode still goes hard. Just now realized when watching Ready Room and saw next weeks scene that Pike never came back. I kinda figured he’d be at the end going YOU DID WHAT?
Yeah, I was thinking "that can't be her real voice." It was so jarring that I had to YouTube clips of her to make sure. It's definitely exaggerated and if that is a director's choice, it's a really bad one because that is one of the most annoying voices for a character I've heard in a very long time. An entire season of that? Yikes.
