I wanted T'Pol to turn up as an Admiral of the Fleet in DSC's premiere episode. Sadly it was not to be. :(

She can still do it in SNW though...

And no, I'm not thinking President of the Federation or anything like that. THAT honor shall be reserved for The Robau. :mallory:

I could definitely see her as an ambassador, working with Sarek on some projects with new member races, maybe. Sadly, I don't ever see it happening. Her career has been spotty and IMDB doesn't have her doing anything since 2017. She seems to have been in semi-retirement, focusing more on her family than acting. She has gone on record by saying, "Spock was the sex symbol. A lot of people think it was Kirk. But no, it was really Spock." She might consider doing such a scene, but I still feel the chances to be unlikely. Here's hoping...

This kind of thinking wasn't even a part of the Trek Fandom I grew up with.

We spent our time actually figuring out ways to make things jibe, rather than arguing about whether or not it was Canon.
It is ALL Canon as far as I'm concerned and there's always a way to make things fit if one tries hard enough.
When I was getting into STAR TREK as a kid in the seventies, I don't even think the concept of canon was on the fan-radar. I don't recall the concept becoming an item of contention until ca. 1989 and the clamping down on Pocket Books, DC Comics, and the FASA RPG's with the infamous canon memo and new guidelines for licensees. It mushroomed from there into an obsession with policing the canon and "canonical consistency" being a much more emphasized measure of perceived quality.

This actually makes sense as it's clear from 1989's Star Trek 5 that travel times hadn't been set in stone in any sort of "canon", yet 6 years later the inability to cross the galaxy in a short timeframe would headline Trek's newest show despite a full film hinging on the ability to cross that same distance in a short timeframe.

Which it's not. It's probably the poorest standard for quality while be trumpeted the loudest as somehow the best.

Continuity's one of those things, like lighting and the actors wearing pants, that you don't necessarily think about while you're watching until they get it wrong. I don't give an episode bonus points if the actors all learned their lines, and I don't give points if they remember that Vulcan has no moon either, but it'll certainly take me out of a story if they mess something obvious up.

Which is fair to be sure and I have those things too. But, it isn't enough for me to go "alternate reality." And it comes down to it being on TV were inconsistencies stand out more and more now.

I think this is my second favourite episode of the show thus far. I was properly engaged and enjoying the characters being goofy.

Nurse Chapel has a tattoo! I think she's only the third Starfleet character to have them, after Chakotay and Rios.

I wish this show was an all-out reboot, because I'm seeing Chapel wrecking Spock's marriage. And I want it to happen.

What's likely is that something about Chapel and Spock is what really alienates T'Pring.

Anyone else ever live in the Ithaca NY area and nearly fall out of their chair when they heard the reference to, basically, the Rongovian Embassy?
