It's in keeping with TOS tradition. Spock was called a Lt. Commander in Season 1 but had full Commander's braids.

Sure, uniform errors have always happened. But 6 out of 8 is ridiculously sloppy.

I don't think I'd be here if the only thing we discussed is canonicity. I kind of like rejecting the whole concept, but I also enjoy conversing, and understand it is a frame people embrace.
