The person who isone of, if not my best friend is an attractive, straight, younger by a few years married woman. I'm a straight, currently single, man. The bigger issue we've had is people thinking we're more than friends/her kids that I babysit all the time making statements not knowing connotation (this is my moms special friend:guffaw::brickwall:) than any actual issues with our relationship being platonic. We both know where we stand and we have no problems with it. Although I have had a couple women on dating apps say they could never trust a guy who had a woman as a friend.

I'm so glad you said that. I really dislike Spock/Kirk A LOT for the same reason. And have argued with shippers that it's not about gay because if they were both gay characters in canon I would still dislike it. Because people can be friends, can love each other without being sexually attracted. And the power of their friendship and how it grew and weathered storms and betrayals and became so important to both of them was a powerful story.
Exactly this. To me, current media culture emphasizes sexual connection way too much rather than building a stronger relationship and creating very deep bonds.

I didn't mention this earlier, but I must say this as a huge DSC Fan: They did a very good job with the casting of Detmer's brother. It's uncanny how much they look like brother and sister.

Is he really Detmer's brother? The subtitles on my viewing said something like Denver. (I didn't commit it to memory.)

I actually think television, in general, does "deep friendships" much better than "romantic relationships."

Or maybe it's just that I prefer watching the friendships develop and all that comes with that. I guess it's one of the reasons I think most shows "jump the shark" when two main characters finally get together or whatever.

The problem with romantic relationships on TV is happy relationships are boring, because there is no dramatic tension.

That's one reason Miles and Keiko were an awesome couple - because even though they loved each other, they wanted different things out of life, got on one another's nerves, and...behaved in a way that any of us who have been married for longer than five years can relate to.

Shit. You're right. It's Dever. I checked Memory Alpha. Well, that's disappointing.

I had the volume set to low because I was watching overnight. My father, who just retired, and his girlfriend, moved in with me on Wednesday. Half the year living with me, half the year living with someone else, and I didn't want to wake them up while I was watching. Next time I'll turn captions on.

Just another adjustment I'll have to make while keeping from going crazy. But that's a whole other topic...

It's funny, because with Picard and especially Discovery I find I need subtitles on all the time to understand what is being said, but I haven't had that experience with SNW. It seems like the music is mixed much better.

I think it would be fine if I put on headsets, but I'd rather not do that. Ehhh... it'll work itself out.

The Fleegman Maneuver.
The Fleegman maneuver:

Kepler-22 is a long way from Nevasa/40 Eri, right? Probably part of one or more of the "roads" between core Federation systems and "true" Deneb, since it's viewable within the bounds of Cygnus.

I've been thinking about this one. This show is really good. It hasn't stumbled yet.

I think I enjoyed it more than last week. I thought last weeks was good, but this was much less intense. I like the TOS stuff. The dream sequence was full of so much stuff that I need to see it more times to appreciate. I'm starting to really like how unashamed this show is in showing its' TOS roots.

Amok Spock is a great breather and it's nice to see an episode built entirely out of diplomacy and downtime. It felt earned, because we've spent the last four episodes learning how brave these people are.

That's an upward trajectory from E01-05 for me, whilst reminding that though I liked Strange New Worlds the least, I still don't think it's bad.
