Another solid episode. Some of Ortegas' complaining got a little old and seemed....unprofessional, but the "Can you not?" looks from Pike made them work for the most part. Still, it did seem like she was whining about having to do her job a bit, and this is coming from someone who really likes the character so far.
I also thought the new guy on the bridge whose name escapes me right now was a bit over the top, especially with his "YES!" reaction when Uhura confirms she and Hemmer are okay. Dude needed to turn it down a notch or two.
I did like seeing the Enterprise show some actual visible damage after going through such an ordeal. Year of Hell aside, that was something I always felt was missing from Voyager being a ship nowhere near a repair base. I do hope that the next episode opens with her being in spacedock undergoing repairs, or at least some acknowledgement of the damage. Maybe this is how the ship slowly becomes more and more TOS-ish? A little here and there as she sustains damage during each episode and is subsequently repaired?

It's a good question though. Why would such an advance race with warp capable ships need to catch prey for food? That's not a very cost effect proposition. I suppose it could be tradition. But perhaps there's an underlying problem?
Maybe they don't need. They just want. It's possible they don't really see other species as "sentient" in the way they are, etc.

I agree to some extent. But, it would be next to impossible to not show Kirk. I'm ok with it. But hoping he's not posted to the Enterprise.

One thing I'd love is if they show the transition from Pike's Enterprise to Kirk's ship over the years. Get some more familiar characters etc and then lead into a new TOS!

But, I'm getting ahead of myself!

That's probably the plan. We get a Pike series for two years then a reboot of TOS to knock the original show out of canon since no one can deal with the way the show looked or was filmed.

Well, I'm hoping to complete Pike's Five Year Mission at least!

I suspect they want to get to Kirk as soon as possible. It's easier to get better ratings with such a established character. The actor playing Kirk is already in his late 30s he can't wait too long. Maybe Pike will do 3 seasons. These producers are pretty eager to replace the original show out of canon so it all fits better. I bet we even get remakes of old TOS eps

Won't happen. SNW will end before the first Kirk episode of TOS. They're not rebooting TOS or wiping it from the continuity. And if some fans don't like the original 1960s or Remastered visuals, well, that's their loss. I wouldn't touch TOS in the canon and end SNW as Pike hands over command of the Enterprise to Kirk.

To do otherwise would be stupidity and while the CBS Era of Trek has had its stupid, illogical and lousy creative choices there's no indication TOS is in danger.

This episode was great. Excellent pacing, really cool and different situations that they put the three groups of main characters in (who all got stuff to do!) AND a handful of extras that get to do stuff and have names, while still managing to be a personal character piece for La'an.

SNW really hits the spot man.

That's how I'd write it up: The final moments of the SNW Season 7 and series finale should be Fleet Captain Pike transferring command of the Enterprise to Paul Wesley's Kirk and we pull away from the ship in spacedock to and see it as it looked in TOS, albeit up-rezed the way the Defiant was in "In a Mirror, Darkly."

I'd be very surprised if they did that. When SNW ends they might end up doing some Kirk spinoff but I doubt they'd replace the leads of this show, especially if it's doing well in ratings, which I have no idea.

Anyone have such data for the various NewTrek shows?

Maybe a refit to bring it more in line with the TOS look but not too much. The proportions are completely different, so I'd rather not see such a radical change in-series. Let each show have its visual style.

I'm a huge TOS fan. But I wouldn't mind if they did a remake. If I didn't like it, I just wouldn't watch and still have the original.

But I think they'll let SNW run its full course first. They won't be in a rush to end a hit series. And I really want to see more adventures with Pike and his crew.
