I believe Antony takes issue with this exchange in the episode:

Chapel: We’re going to have to give it to you via IV.
Una: Do I have a choice?
M’Benga: You can decline. Wait for the systems to be online.
Chapel: We can take bets on when septic shock would begin. I hear it’s like giving birth out your mouth.
Una: Who says something like that?
    Chapel: Me.

... finding it inappropriate. I thought it was funny, but hey, different strokes. (There's probably a case to be made that this isn't the wording most nurses would choose. In context, I liked it as a subtle means of nudging past Una's instincts for heroic stoicism to get her to accept what's medically necessary for the situation.)

Again, she was talking to a coworker in a calm moment in the middle of a crisis.
Inappropriate sometimes becomes appropriate, or at least expected.

Yeah, I don't have any particular problem with it, myself.

Sweet. I will welcome you with open arms. Because I like Bareil :rommie::guffaw:

I don't care for Chapel, but I don't hate her either. Her unprofessional behavior just strikes me as part of my experience with working in and around the medical field, never mind being around military members. Different strokes, etc. etc.

Not really. No one is saying you can't dislike the character. They merely find fault with why. Your argument seems based on a person who is X would never do this. When people offered examples to counter this assertion you got defensive. Yes, there was some sarcasm involved, but no one was being mean. Just a touch of incredulity, perhaps. An now you've dug in and are trying to play victim with all the classic cards. "I'm not allowed to have an opinion!!" "People are being mean" "Everyone is piling on!!" "It's just a TV Show why argue???"

I had no real problem with it, or was kind of humorous. It may have worked better if we were more episodes in and he seen Una and Chapel having a bit more of a level of friendship.

She's not in "the military." She's in a "military" (Dr. Evil style quote fingers there.)

The military status in Trek has always been vague and inconsistent on how disciplined it is. But at the end of the day it's mostly seemed to just be there as a form of structure and regimen than any kind of form of serious, rigid, order. I doubt on military vessels the CO is holding barbecues in his ludricously large cabin where people are coming in wearing informal clothes (other than cadet tricked into wearing a dress uniform) and sharing humorous stories of professional mistakes, personal tragedies, and thoughts of not staying in this "military."

It's only a military in the vaguest, air-quote-istly sense.

Another justification for her comment is to scare her patient into making the right decision. "What is septic shock?" Well she can either be sweet, kind, gentle and miltaristic and be "oh, it's painful and uncomfortable, and we can't really do anything for you with our resources right now, but if you choose that route we'll do everything we can for you."

No, smack her in the face with the shock of what it is, "It's like giving birth out your mouth. Sound like something you want to go through, get the damn blood transfusion."

And also, the younger a person tends to be the more brash they often are. Chapel could be in your face and brash even in TOS as when she lectures Ensign Garrovick in "Obsession" but life events can change you over a relatively short span of time.

I lost both my parents and I'm certainly more cynical and different than I was before the first parent died. When you suffer personal loss you change, even if it's not immediately apparent.

Sorry about your mum, @AntonyF. :(

I like Chapel thus far (but need more time to decide if I really like the character).

And I very much agree about Bereil. (I think that's the spelling.) Capital ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Why are we so divided on our Calender Date format?
We need to work on some sort of international standard =D.

I recommend (YYYY/MM-DD DotW) as the standard.

I know. Requirements might be different, though, or perhaps she just felt more inspired on the other show.
