Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I hope we get the SS Aurora as well. It’s like Mudd’s Class J ship but with windows and longer nacelles.

Just curious: Have Eaglemoss done or are they planning to do the original SS Aurora? Backwards Tholian ship with nacelles > space VW bus
No to the first question and no such announcement has been made about the second. In fact, it seems that if a TOS ship hasn't been remastered, it doesn't exist in the line. Probably because source material on some of the old models was sparse and there is a higher expenditure of R&D funds making a whole new mesh, as opposed to adapting an existing model for 3D printing. I suspect it's more of a business decision than anything else. If the line continues to be profitable, they may put smaller shuttle-size versions of these classic ships in a four-box set or something. But no official announcements, no.
If you get that than we also need the original Tholian spinner. :rommie:
Eh, just break the engines off. :D ;)

Got this as an email today for those interested

Dear ****
We appreciate that we have not released much information about the Star Trek Discovery collection to date; we would like to apologise for this, it’s one of the challenges we are facing developing a new collection based on a TV series that is equally new.

That being said, we are aware that in recent weeks, some information has been posted from various sources and we wanted to officially confirm a number of details:
  1. The running order: This has been tweaked slightly and for those of you loving the Federation ships, you’ll be pleased to know that issue 3 in the collection will now be the U.S.S. Kerala and the Klingon Bird of Prey will switch to issue 4.
  2. Despatch dates: We are pleased to confirm that the wait is almost over and that issue 3 – the U.S.S. Kerala will now be available from 12th June. Again we would like to apologise for this delay and
greatly appreciate your patience. From June we’ll send out your issues monthly.
  3. Subscriber gifts: Possibly most exciting of all, and as confirmed by our very own Star Trek oracle,
Ben Robinson, at Destination Star Trek in Dortmund, subscriber gifts have now been approved by
CBS, so we are pleased to confirm that as part of your collection you will receive the following
amazing FREE gifts, worth over £100!:
  • x2 Scale chart posters
  • U.S.S. Shenzhou dedication plaque
  • U.S.S. Discovery dedication plaque
  • Tardigrade Figurine
  • Mirror Universe I.S.S. Shenzhou
We really hope you are enjoying this collection and once again thank you for your continued patience.

Kind regards

Herocollector Team

I like that.
A) Some rejected designs in Trek history would’ve made cool ships (Probert’s mega-warbird) or were actually recycled into cool ships (Defiant pathfinder into Nova class).
B) If two ship classes are from the same “mold”, the design language helps world building by suggesting design lineage.

Actually the "Defiant pathfinder" was never really a Defiant design. It was retroactively created as an in-universe concept for the DS9 Technical Manual.

Seriously. I fuckin hate the TOS remastered cgi models and space vfx.:shifty:
I love the remastered image quality. But the space-shots are a big part of a space opera for me. And everytime the cartoon-y models are visibly, I want to go back to the low-resolution original. The remastered shots are an abomination.

When they announced the TOS Tholian ship, I was (naively) expecting the original model. Yes, that was pretty bare. But so is this. And the models aren't that big.

Really? I found most of the touch up to be an improvement. "The Doomsday Machine" is probably the best example of this, with the Enterprise gracefully dancing around the Planet Killer, not to mention seeing the shuttle (now named the Einstein and not the Galileo) take off, as well as correcting the scale problem with the Planet Killer vs shuttle vs Constellation.

Planets look more like planets, instead of red blobs; the Woden looks like a 23rd century ship, instead of the Botany Bay, the vista on Vulcan is impressive, and we actually get to see several ships on-screen that were originally kept off-screen for budget reasons.

Then again, I actually approve of most of the changes to the Star Wars films that were made in the 90's, like the more impressive X-wing shots and the more somber celebration music at the end of Return of the Jedi. (Not all of them, mind you. Greedo shooting first is ridiculous and that wacky musical number in Jabba's palace adds nothing to the plot and slows down the story). And was 15 when they came out, so I'm old enough to remember the versions that came before.

Perhaps the only TOS remastered update I would've change is to have the Klingon ship that attacks the Enterprise at the start of "Errand of Mercy" be something different than a D7. It just never felt right that they could destroy one that easily. Something smaller, like a Bird of Prey, would've been better. (What do you suppose a Bird of Prey designed in the Matt Jeffries style would've looked like?)

Glad to hear the Kerala is confirmed for next month. I can’t wait to play with it side by side with the Walker-class!

Same excitement goes for ISS Shenzhou. I love mirror ships. Lang lebe das Terranische Reich!

I wonder if the June 12th date applies to the US as well ? So far with the Discovery line the US & UK releases have been close together.

Reactions: pst
There were opportunities in introducing a TOS Bird-of-Prey which were sadly missed by. There was, as well, the scout ship in "Friday's Child" and the ship in "A Private Little War".

Tomorrow is ROYAL WEDDING! :hugegrin::adore:
How are you gonna watch it?

I’ll try to reprogram the HomePods in our store for live coverage by BBC Radio.

Perhaps we get a discount in the UK store?

Yeah...my ancestors fought a war 200 years ago for the right not to give a shit about royal anythings. I shall continue to honor and respect that proud tradition. No offense to my Brit brothers and sisters out there. :p

But I still love the Eaglemoss models! :D

On the US site they’ve posted a list of when you get the subscriber gifts for the Discovery line. I don’t know if this is the same for other countries.

Shipment 2- Discovery Collection posters (2). I wonder if those of us who already have 2 shipments will get with Shipment 3 ?

Shipment 4- Shenzhou dedication plaque

Shipment 8- Discovery dedication plaque

Shipment 12- Tardigrade Figurine

Shipment 15- ISS Shenzhou
