Don't forget the blond guy, Kyle. He seemed decent enough, chatting amiably (flirting?) with the Klingon student during the awkward Klingon joke scene. And they made a point of showing that, unlike the other War College cadets, Kyle was more amused than angry at the giant plant invasion. He was positively grinning as he paused to take it all in.
It's funny, the first time I watched it, I saw Kyle as basically a full sociopath. I thought in the first scene he was stretching it out because he loved watching Jay-Den writhe in discomfort, and in the second he was enjoying the chaos in some Joker-like way.

When I saw everyone else read it as flirty, I rewatched those bits, and that read fits too! I hope that's what it is, that feels like a fun story.

Not everybody was on Steroids, "The Rock" might've been more recently, but definitely not at that age when he first joined WWE.

He was definitely less jacked when he first showed up on WWE TV all those years ago as "Rocky Maivia" back then.
When he was portraying "The Final Boss" recently, he was EXTRA JACKED to the gills for a man in his late 50's early 60's.

Also John Cena was equally jacked when he first joined WWE, Vince McMahon didn't believe that he was "All Natural", so he made him take the Drug Tests for Steroids and Cena passed with flying colors.

Some kids are just blessed with the "Right Genetics".
At his own admittance he started using them at 19.

They're being trained to be brilliant tacticans, but they're still just beginners at this point. They're not supposed to be the best of the best yet. That's why they need to attend the college.

And I guess they haven't had much experience with photonic beings yet.
She was basically screaming "look at me bitches" to distract them and they acted like a bunch of stormtroopers firing randomly. Or like those guards from a video game where they keep shouting "I THOUGHT I HEARD SOMETHING HERE" while you are crouched in a bush in front of them.

Give your enemy cause to underestimate you? Create a distraction?
That was the plan and it worked when she revealed herself and started waving at them. I mean unless they knew she had a holoemitter and were trying to destroy it, I'm not sure what their plan was. lol

Minor technical nitpick that I haven’t seen anyone mention so far (just to demonstrate that I notice this kind of stuff too, I guess ) …

During their caper infiltrating the War College quarters, Sam is shown to activate/appear and deactivate/disappear from one door to the next. She might be able to do that since she’s photonic, but why would the spray ejectors she’s using keep disappearing with her as well? They might be holographic, too, but surely not the substance inside of them.

But then again, does she somehow work like a transporter, being able to materialize with objects at will? I guess we just don’t know enough about her yet to really say.

One more favorite scene I want to mention: How freakin’ heartbreaking was that moment when Darem brought his PADD to Reno, thinking something might be wrong with it since he didn’t hear back from home. Damn, poor guy. :wah:

I gave a 7, to me, it had a Revenge of the Nerds vibe.

So why to they keep addressing Kelrec as Commander Kelrec, yet he wears Captain's insignia?
Probably a title vs rank kind of thing. The head of the War College probably has the title Commander of the War College.
The head of Starfleet Acadamy probably has the title Chancellor Starfleet Academy. When the ship is in San Francisco, they have their school titles, If either of them are the CO of a ship underway, the title would change to Captain, but only for the one running the ship. Dont' know if that is stated elsewhere, just my head canon.

Yeah initially i felt like he was being sarcastic/condescending but as the scene progressed i was like 'Oh he's flirting hard'. Rewatching the scene you can see Kyle's eyes light up when he sees Jay-den the first time.

But he admitted he was more dabelling in it as a teen.
A "try it once" kind of situation.
Not continually abusing it through-out his career.

His physique didn't show the stero typical usage patterns when he debuted in WWE.
He was rather "Soft" for what you would expect out of Steroid Usage.

And he was more jacked very recently that looked exactly like Steroid usage when he recently came back.

Look, I understand - fun-loving, rule-breaking jocks are probably more popular with general audiences then mega-nerds, but this is Star Trek, and frankly the kids showed less maturity here than what I remember from when I was a college freshmen. Felt more high-school coded than anything.
Have you never seen a college based comedy? Animal House? Revenge of the Nerds? Real Genius?
The fitness class makes no sense...

Why are they training species with wildly different physical capabilities using 1200 year old generic human standards?
Because it's a TV show aimed at humans with memories of be in Phys Ed.
So... Was the competition field a holodeck or an actual location?

Because they never really made that clear in the episode.
Does it matter to the plot? No.
I'd be more afraid of him than Jay-Den Kraag.

He's scrawny, but tall, insufficient muscle mass for a Klingon Warrior.

Perfect for StarFleet.
You need to check out some TOS Klingons. Koloth and Korax weren't exactly intimidating.

I liked the first 2 episodes, but this is just a 5 from me.

I like they "starfleeted" it in the end. Kind of like technobabble solution, but instead of words, some science action. Beat them with science! How Starfleet of you! :techman:

But this "American high school bully shtick" is absolutely not for me. I have no idea is real US schools are like this, or it's exaggerated, but this motive being in so many shows and films is exhausting, and having it in Star Trek is just too much for me, so the whole episode was mostly not very enjoyable.
