i gave the last one a 9, this drops do a generous 5. Anyway am i crazy but do the audio seem a bit muffled/detached on all episodes? There's something strange going on with the sound when they talk.....

^ Haven’t noticed any sound problems so far. I’m watching with subtitles on, though. So even if a line is mumbled I will still understand what they’re saying.

Managed to watch the first 15 minutes this morning before being off to work. Pesky job getting in the way of watching Star Trek again.

That first act looked like a lot of fun. I like the music and the snappy pace and editing. The episode definitely seems to be the lighthearted college comedy many early reviewers said it would be / warned us about. And going by the reactions here it seems like it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. As I said over in the preview thread the other day, I wonder if it would have been wiser to place the episode later in the season, when we know the characters better. Who knows, maybe after all is said and done people will look back at this episode and consider it a case of “early installment weirdness”.

Can’t wait to watch the rest after work tonight!

Pajamas with warp cores printed on them...

I adore Ake. I love how she channels her inner Elastigirl to stretch out on every surface.

thnx tenmey and Michael, prob just me then. (i actually do have a bit of a hearing problem so...)
I definitely have that problem with a lot of modern shows, where the dialog is super quiet, the characters mumble and breath their lines, or the sound FX drown out what they are saying. It’s either that or the dialog is lightning fast and I’m not able to follow that way. Been watching modern shows with subtitles on for years now because of that. I haven’t noticed that it’s more pronounced on SFA, though. If anything, I’m surprised how much better I’m able to follow the dialog compared to Discovery, which was a challenge sometimes for this non-native speaker. :)

Managed to squeeze in a couple more minute of watching the episode. Why are they are all so freakin’ adorkable!? :luvlove:

Sam screaming “This is NOT like laser tag!” and Jay-Den’s deadpan “Nothing about me is funny” cracked me up.

And Calica looks interesting. Phasers beaming away the people that are hit are a clever idea. “Release the drones!”

I scored this on the 6ish end of 7. I didn't like much of the plot or many of the elements of it. I am also getting inpatient for finding out about Sisko. So why a 7?
I thought the execution and worldbuilding was magnificent. I'm not going to crap on it just because it's not my thing.

That's exactly what I was feeling. This one didn't work for me, but it also reminded me of episodes like "A Man Alone" from DS9 or "Parallax" on VOY... there is lots to like in it, it just doesn't feel like they've figured out the overall show yet and so the full piece doesn't go down smoothly.

I felt like I was eating a dish that was so close to being excellent, except they made a few key mistakes, pulled it from the oven too early, etc., and now it's stuck with a gross texture or something. So close but also vitally off at the same time.

This is my least favorite episode of the season so far. I have no interest in watching their team competitions.

War College and Starfleet Academy being side by side is no issue for me.
Both orgs returned to Earth recently, both inhabit the former SFA grounds.
They could’ve been separated through layout but were perhaps deliberately put together to allow for a future merger.
