Star Trek Rotten Tomatoes Rating

Rotten Tomatoes' Critical Consensus:

Consensus: Star Trek reignites a classic franchise with action, humor, a strong story, and brilliant visuals, and will please traditional Trekkies and new fans alike.

Sounds like my kind of Trek film. :techman:

I have such a TREK erection right now...oh wait did I type that out aloud :p

Two worlds collide
Rival nations
It's a primitive clash
Venting years of frustrations
Bravely we hope
Against all hope
There is so much at stake
Seems our freedom's up
Against the ropes
Does the crowd understand?
Is it East versus West
Or man against man
Can any nation stand alone

It's true that Ebert is outside the demographic groups that the studio is most eager to court with this film. So am I. So are a great many long-time Star Trek fans, as well as most of the folks who have actually worked on the Franchise in the past. It's many of us who have to make the most effort in order to be openminded about this film.

i just love the ass-beating this film is giving the SW prequels in reviews

What a strange connection to make!

If you're still hung up on the PT, I'd say get over it - the rest of the world apparently has. The last one came out FOUR years ago now!

I like the Prequel Trilogy. It's unfortunate that to do so means pretending Anakin Skywalker doesn't exist, but when I do that, I really like it!

Honestly:
In TPM we had "yippee!" and "whoops!".
In AOTC we had emo Anakin fighting his troubled teenage soul.
In ROTS we had "NOOOOOOO!"

Oh, and to grace them all: Jar Jar Binks. <kill>

In my mind, Darth Vader is still the kickass, soulless SOB he was in ANH (with elements of the good man deep down in ROTJ), and mediocre revisionism will not change that. So I pretend he doesn't exist. I absolutely loved Ewan McGregor's portrayal of Obi Wan. Brilliant. Loved Ian MacDirmid, loved Natalie Portman as Padme. Every incarnation of Anakin Skywalker, however, was atrocious. The whole point of the Prequels, and they screwed it up from start to finish!

Sorry...bit of a rant.

J.
