News Star Trek Prodigy Cancelled, Season 2 to be shopped around

However, all twenty episodes of Season 1 still seem to be available for purchase on Amazon Prime and iTunes.

I don't see it available for purchase on Amazon Prime Canada, but I don't know if it was removed, or just never there to begin with. However, I do see all 20 episodes available for purchase on iTunes Canada.

So I did something I said I'd never do, and spent money on a digital-only version of a TV show. At this point, we don't know if the second half of the season will ever come out on blu-ray or not, so I wanted to at least give myself the best possible chance to still be able to view the second half of the season in the future, whatever may happen.

I technically only needed the last 10 episodes, since I already have 1 - 10 on blu-ray, but it would have cost $34.90 to buy those 10 episodes individually, whereas I could get the whole season for $29.99, so.....

It looks like the episodes are only in 720p, but beggars, choosers, and such.

And thanks to @jackoverfull 's note earlier in the thread, I am currently downloading all the episodes onto local storage. (No offence intended if someone else mentioned that and I am forgetting you!)

I will still, of course, happily get the episode 11 - 20 blu-ray if it ever comes out, since I tend to prefer physical media.

And naturally, none of this helps for season 2, but I'm hoping this means I'll still be able to watch season 1 in the future if the series gets disappeared.

Also, I hope it goes without saying that I still hope Prodigy finds a new home, so that it can continued to be enjoyed by all, well into the future!

So, forgive me, but this is a long thread... Is there actually a chance we will not see Season 2? Even a slight chance?

WTF is that all about?

@jackoverfull

Thanks for that. I've since read through the thread.

Well, it's sad times for Star Trek fans isn't it? it was only a year ago we were celebrating having new Star Trek episodes all year, but these days shows are dropping like flies.

So, I understand now that Season 2 has been written off for tax purposes and yada yada that's totally shit, but what's the need to pull Season 1 from P+?

That's just insane. There would HAVE to be some way they could profit from it, even if it was just selling it off to someone.
Depends on how much it cost to make it. This is very much short term, "save the ship" type thinking, rather than longer term and hope for profits.

If they were still making S2, I'd put it in the "forlorn hope" pile with S3 and beyond. But what I'm getting is that the second season is fully made, it just isn't out yet.

I do see some hope in what Kate Mulgrew said in response to the news, though:
"We still have only just begun."

From what I have gathered Season 2 appears to be done and they are hoping to find it a new home to make that money. If they can do that then it will work. If not, then physical media would be the best bet.

Unfortunately she has no real power over the CBS/Paramount network executives.

Amazon US has a listing for season 1, part 2 blu-ray up

usually these turn out to be true if it does this is a relief. They can’t take physical media away from you which is why it’s so important to have.

I'm sure this is real. The question is, will season 2 end up as direct-to-dvd if Paramount can't find a buyer?

Power over Para-schmucks? No.
But maybe a bit of insider knowledge. She's been in show business for almost half a century, after all.

That's good news. Amazon wouldn't put that up without good reason.

That's good news. I would like the single box set, but if I have to get two to get the full season, I'll get both.
