Well in the original, there was no vessel at all. So showing a medusan vessel, kinda have to go TOS-R
Better to have some sort of ship that just imagine it. Nowadays, if they didn't show the ship, it would come across as extremely cheap and a cheat. So, they work with what they got.

Exposition episode, nothing particularly remarkable but good to know a bit more background I guess.

Seems that Chakotai is actually lost in the future!

I liked the “she met a boy” line. No further explanation is needed. :)

I hope there's an opportunity to expand on that. "She met a boy," kind of diminishes her own journey to, "Doe-eyed waif really has no thoughts of her own and let a boy lead her astray."

CHAKOTAY: I don't suppose you can fly us out of here?!
COMMANDER: Har har. Very funny. You know that Bolian barber clipped my wings too short. I said, "Nothing fancy. Just a little off the bottom that's all. Clean up my moltings." Besides, I haven't eaten my own body weight for energy today. I only had a scoop of quadrotriticale and flaxseed this morning. Why don't you change into a bird and get us out of this?
CHAKOTAY: Wrong tribe.

First contact with Solum was made by an upside down Prometheus :D
Yeah about that. Did the ship actually make contact with the Solum, or did the Solum just discover the ship when doing astronomical observations of their system? Maybe the ship was never supposed to make contact, but they were accidentally detected, so the crew had to do a hasty first contact which ended up creating more problems. Also there's another goof that when the Protostar arrives, it's still the upside Prometheus, you can even seen the blue deflector dish.

The stories were good, but I do still have some questions about Rok-Tahk origins. Who were her parents (if such a concept is applicable to her species)? Is her species native to the Delta Quadrant? How did she end up in the arena in the first place?
Also, how old is Zero? Did they originally join the Medusan expedition, which seems to have started around the time of TOS, or were they maybe born latter? At least we know Jankom Pog was in stasis for a long time.

That was good, nice to see there back stories.

One crit is it seems that Zero is conteporary in time, so why are the medusans still using the Tos style ship? You'd think the feds would provide an up to date ship for them? And didn't the glasses only work for vulcans? Humans couldn't view a medusan even with the glases, but the kazon could? Huh.

Based on Zero's description of his Medusan shipmates, "Curious minds who'd left their homeworld long, long ago to explore", it sounds like they were an offshoot of the Medusan people who decided to separate from their homeworld, so perhaps their homeworld could only spare a really old-fashioned ship for them to use (unless they left during TOS times, in which case they were given a contemporary ship for that era which looks old to us now)
