Spoilers Star Trek Picard Season 2 Hopes and Predictions

In fact, the whole first season goes out of it's way to state time and time again that humanity isn't defined by the artificiality of one's body. That was the whole season arc, that was what the show was all about. It's not a minor detail to be missed

I think we're missing the forest for the trees at this point. The minor details being lost in disappointed expectations.

Yes, that someone was me, so please don't quote myself against me

Ummm I didnt not quote you. Though I am now. Lmao.

Thesus' ship is a perfect example though. Is it the same ship or isnt it. If a ship is 90% replaced it is now only mostly a representation of the original ship. The new Picard has copied memories and body. Nothing more...its not the original picard.

as the Doctor once learned in season 8 episode 1, even if you remove every single part of the broom over and over again until one does not recognize one's own face...something something...he's still the Doctor

Um, I'm confused because yes you did in the below post, and then referenced Theseus Ship, with @Hythlodeus stated on the same page.
That's not true at all. Kirk as a female wasnt all Kirk in turnabout intruder. If the Kirk body had died what we know as Kirk would gone.

There is ZERO organic matter of Picard left. ZERO. The only thing that exists according to dialogue is an scanned and mapped copy of his mind. That's it.

As someone said...THESEUS' SHIP.

It is no longer the Picard that we know. In all the other instances everyone was restored to their original selves. Everyone.

it's Theseus' ship all over again
Yup, there it is.

The new Picard has copied memories and body. Nothing more...its not the original picard.
And someone has yet to explain to me why this is a bad thing? Even if he is a copy (I don't agree but for the sake of argument I will allow it) we have had copies, like Harry, before. They are treated the exact same. So, the only difference is on a technicality one of which means precisely zilch, nada, zip, goose egg, to the overall story, aside from Picard's choice in the story and potential implications for him getting the Federation to sort stuff out.

In a single year, 98% of the atoms that comprise your body are replaced. IRL our consciousness is clearly not tied to the "stuff" we are made out of - even if it is rooted in the physical world. You could sub out all of the atoms you are made of for different atoms, and (since all atoms are identical of a given element/ion) it would be you with no perceptual gap. Hell, given humans can lose limbs (or even parts of their brains) and seem to report being the same person, a perfect swap likely isn't even needed - just one which is "good enough."

Turning to the Trekverse, the only thing that really matters is if the story treats Picard as the same person. All indications are he is. Everyone surrounding him takes for granted he's Jean Luc, and he has a first-person experience right up until the moment of his (old body's) death.

Haha. I was waiting for someone to bring this up.

There are cells that remain with us our entire lives. I will give you a guess where some are located....

The interesting part of this is the original script had Sargon and his wife floating as disembodied entities for all eternity, but Roddenberry, as a staunch atheist, was opposed to consciousness being independent of matter...though he had no issue with porting it around virtually anywhere.
Add TNG Power Play to the list!

An Image of that file would be a copy of the file.
"scanned, mapped and transferred"

Was the exact quote. It wasn't copied. They scanned his brain to map everything out, then transferred it, not copied it, to the new body.
