Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Retroactively, writers of Picard Season 3 book-ended the series in a few of ways I didn't think of before.

In the second episode of PIC, Picard asks Admiral "Fucking" Clancy for a field demotion to Captain if she thought his rank as Admiral was too conspicuous to go on a mission to rescue Dahj's sister Soji. She of course, rejects his request and tells him... you know the rest! Book-ending that, in the second-to-last episode of PIC, when Picard's back on the Enterprise-D, and Geordi transfers the command codes to him, the ship's computer says, "USS Enterprise now under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard." To which, Picard jokingly says, "I accept the field demotion!"

In the very first episode of PIC, Picard is dreaming about Data and the Enterprise-D, both of which were gone. In the last episode of PIC, Picard is back on the Enterprise-D with entire his senior staff back, including Data.

In the first episode of PIC, Picard says he hasn't been living, he's been waiting to die. In the last episode of PIC, Picard is living, he has a son that he now knows of (whereas he previously believed there would be no more Picards), and he's Saving The Day one last time.

So the series, in and of itself, actually has bookends of its own.

It took Picard 29 episodes to be fully reunited with his ship and his entire crew. I suppose 9 episodes, if you only want to count Season 3. In contrast, in TMP, it probably took Kirk 45 minutes of screen time to be fully reunited with his ship and crew. I forget when exactly Spock shows up on the Enterprise.

One more observation that deserves its own separate post. In TNG, the second digit of the stardate always stood for the season. The first stardate ever given in Picard is Stardate 78183.10. If you only look at the second digit and disregard the rest, it's a subtle nod to the idea that Picard is TNG's eighth season; for those who want to view it that way.

The Saturn Awards appear to be doing a congratulatory farewell tour for the crew. Not only is there a TNG lifetime award that is well deserved, but they're doing a season 3 celebration that is less well deserved but you can't really get mad about even though SNW deserved it more. Make of it what you will.

Though Andor was ultimately a damn good show, it was a bit of an acquired taste. The first three episode arc about Andor fighting the corporate security goons honestly bored me. It wasn't until the fourth episode onwards when they began with the ISB storyline and Mon Mothma's material that the show really got going.

I watched one episode of Andor and once again came away thinking - I've been tricked into watching Star Wars slop again.
It’s almost nothing like any other series or movie.

you need to watch more than one episode

The fact they gave Picard season 3 the award for best Sci-fi series over Andor, nevermind that they gave Stewart the award over Diego Luna or Pedro Pascal in TLOU, tells me everything I need to know about these awards.
That there’s more Star Trek fans in the committee? Or however they vote for these things.
