He had his heart set on The God Thing, didn’t he. Maybe this can be adapted for Seven of Nine’s new show or a streaming movie on Paramount+ like that time when they ran out of scripts and had to loot the Phase II archive and resort to a clip show in TNG season 1.

No thank you. Gene's horrible ideas died with him in 1991. Let's leave it that way.

Starts Friday. Enjoy.

Something I thought of today: Fleet Formation mode is actually another deep cut (of sorts).

It's just Multivector Assault Mode, Software Edition for All Ships.

Instead of designing ships around it, they loaded it onto every ship from the 2370s and newer, which makes sense between the USS Prometheus was a 2370s ship that had elements of Sovereign-class and other Battle of Sector 001 ship designs. It also makes (logically) a kind of sense that Shelby was ushering in its debut since she was involved in standing up that post- Wolf 359 fleet the BoS001 fleet was always assumed to be. What if the Prometheus' MVAM was essentially version 1.0, and over the next 25 years she oversaw development of a version of it that could be applied to any ship? Would sure look like MVAM.

The post-Wolf 359 era ships represent a clean break from prior designs. It would also be another useful lesson from the Dominion War. If post-War, the Federation did a review of its performance, even superior large fleet combat would be a clear focus given how the Dominion was besting them even as late as 2375 at that. In traditional Federation manner, they'd look for a technological solution. Scaling up MVAM to Fleet Formation fits that perfectly.

Also again, makes sense why the Galaxy class ships wouldn't be around anymore and the Enterprise-D didn't have it (beyond Geordi not doing it). Older technology base.It also would explain why, for the first time in 100 years, there are no Mirandas or Excelsiors around. Not just because they're old, but because they're technologically incompatible with Shelby and Starfleet's vision for fixing a problem of the Dominion War era.

This is of course, just theorizing, but Picard Season 3 already seized on one forgotten Voyager plot point (the assimilation virus plot the Borg were working on in "Dark Frontier" is very similar to what was deployed). Maybe Fleet Formation is another? I'll ask Matalas next time he's in a talking mood about plot points on Twitter. But it's something to consider. It fits perfectly.

Thanks. But that’s too much of a coincidence, freakily so.

Do I need to watch any of the other films first though?
Why don’t you try watching them in order, 1-6.
It’ll give you a unique perspective that most people won’t have

There's actually merit to that idea.

I know if I had done that, my view of how Darth Vader's character was treated would likely be vastly different.

It's been a thing since TNG...

I also wonder what Shaw's catch phrase was.

I can't say there being a catch phrase unique to each captain for going to warp was ever a "thing" and always "Engage", "Execute" or some variant. A catch phrase for issuing an order? ("Make it so!") Sure. But it seems silly to make this an in-universe cliché thing every captain has that even the characters anticipate it. It's cracking the Fourth Wall too much.

I can see that as breaking the 4th wall, but I prefer to think of it as a little bit of knowledge in how people within that universe do things and anticipate. Like knowing who the captain's favorite sports team is, or sport for that matter.

I mean, people come up with random catch phrases all the time. I see it being very believable in universe especially with famous captains having their missions taught or holonoveled or what not.
