There was a meta moment in this episode too.

"This is proof that the past mattered"

It kind of ties into Kirks message in Generations. On the bridge of the Enterprise you can make a difference, and on the bridge of the Enterprise..they did make a difference.

They mattered.

It also thematically ties into what Q told Picard in S2. "It matters to me, you matter to me"

But Raffi was more in need of closure to her own arc than Soji was. Soji was at least shown to be exploring, and pretty much done with at the beginning of season 2. Data and Soji could have done with their moment, but they at least both had separate, sort of, closures.

The earlier seasons cast mean very little to me. To the point where I don't really care whether they got closure or not. That being the case my perspective is entirely worked around what works best for the TNG OGers. In this case, I would have preferred Soji simply for the opportunity it would have afforded Spiner to interact with Data's "daughter", which would have been a nice parallel/call back to Lal.

Instead, we got Raffi, helping Worf with intelligence work that he really doesn't need help with, and suddenly transmogrifying into Raffi the Changeling Slayer when we already have a sword-wielding badass in Elnor if one were actually needed.....

Over on YouTube last week, a lot of the comments for the videos of the characters finding and reactivating the Enterprise-D discussed how it triggered memories of watching TNG with family.

I remember one comment in particular talking about how TNG and watching Generations was part of the guy's memories with his mother, who has passed away. And watching the Enterprise-D come back to life made him think of how much he wished his mother was there to watch it with him.
I can relate to that. When the Enterprise started to power up in the episode not only did it take me back to when I was a teenager watching the premiere of TNG, but I thought of how my dad would have loved that segment (along with seeing the 1701-A and the TOS theme playing when seeing it at the museum!)

Perhaps that is the greatest indication of the need that this season has fulfilled for many. In my experience, being a fan of Star Trek is a part of many people's identities but also something that they may have felt invalidated by others for liking. So, this past mattering gives a validation to many who perhaps felt they shouldn't like TNG at some point in time.

And I appreciate that value to others.

The shot of the Enterprise-A and the TOS theme with it was a very sweet moment, very Genesis Trilogy feeling to it.

I feel like Picard season 3 did right by Kirk and the TOS crew also.

For many younger folks, who grew uip either with TNG or the post TNG series like DS9 and Voyager and such, the TOS crew was just kind of a historical footnote, overshadowed by TNG.

Having the Enterprise-A (And NX-01) along with Anton Chekov (Pavels son) etc..it showed the TOS mattered also, so did Enterprise.

Tos always mattered.

A wonderful end to an era and an exciting start to a new, all in one. Loved it.

I'm wondering where this stacks up against other series finales? For me, it might just be the best. Even better than What You Leave Behind.

I am just grateful to Terry Matalas for keeping what few TOS alumni we have left "in the family".
Also, Walter Keonig was the safest one to go with. It sidesteps whatever Takei vs. Shatner has become.

You know what? I take back what I said earlier about "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" and how I wouldn't defend it. I will defend it, just not the way people would think. Pretend William Shatner and George Takei are those two, then it works perfectly!

The more I think about it, the less I like the renaming of the Titan.

I get they wanted to honour the D crew, but Enterprise was already a legacy name with a lot of achievments linked to it from as far back as Archer. There was ALWAYS going to be another Enterprise.

USS Picard would have worked better. Or, make an Enterprise class, and have each ship named for one the of the crew they want to honour.

More to the point though, the Titan itself deserved to be honoured. It single handedly took on the entire borg fleet. It's the ship that discovered the conspiracy. If anything, ships should be named after it, not lose it's own legacy.

I loved series 3, but this one thing really makes no sense to me.

Sigh. Maybe, it all depends on what I see from the previews or something from "Legacy". All lot of things would have to happen for me to get invested. The ship designs have to look pretty and not what I've seen so far, and the uniforms needs a new touch where it has the Star Trek DNA but is not similar to TNG. I would like the stories to be ship based along with the characters and not another Galaxy wide super threat, I'd hope for tales which are not serialized. Probably not going to happen but we'll see.

I'll never watch STRANGE it is not a prequel to the CAGE or TOS and there's nothing I noticed that could draw me in ever. I read too many things that leaves me cold.

You're right about a possible new series with Seven but the Titan design to me doesn't deserve the name Enterprise. Sorry I was never a fan of the ship designs for CBSALLACCESS + Trek.

I really like Sidney La Forge and I hope she's cast for the Legacy show, I think I could be invested in seeing that character as a regular on that show, but a lot of things have to happen in order for me to watch.

For me, I would like the franchise to move on from TNG timelines and move forward into the future where there's a clean slate. The DNA is still there but brings something new... I miss explorations from a ship and doesn't drown itself with LEFTIST politics, like the Anson Mount show, but tell a neutral story where I can understand both sides of the issues and not feel attacked because on my conservative views. I can only be optimistic for what comes but I am glad to see my heroes once more and the Enterprise in PICARD.
Eh, Trek has almost always leaned left, especially in its attempts as social commentary. Roddenberry was a liberal and it was reflected in the show. Every episode has a point of view, they never really go with a neutral point of view with here’s the facts on side A and here’s side B., make up your own mind. The end of an episode usually shows what side was right. And it’s usually the side our heroes wind up on. Though on occasion they make wrong choices and have to live with them.

Out if curiosity which episodes of SNW are the ones drowning in a “Leftist” agenda and attacking your conservative views?
